    Hi

Hope someone can guide me a little

I was made redundant last year after 7 years there , the company closed.

In July I got a job in a call centre. Unfortunately my mental health has deteriorated and I find the job is something that is having a real negative effect on me.. Work has been OK with it so far but I know they have a business to run and I have myself to look after. I guess I feel pressure from a financial side..if I decided to leave the job because of my mental health will I be entitled to any benefits ?
I know when I was made redundant I got entitlements straight away and continued to get it until I got the job . (I was pro active while unemployed doing courses etc)

I have battled with mental health from early teens and have learned to manage it , with aid of professional health .

Sorry if the post is a little disjoined and a bit all over place but I hope my query is a bit clear

    Thanks

The redundancy situation and the unemployment period that followed would be different issues to the present difficulty.

If you are off sick you should be entitled to the same benefit as if you slipped a disc or broke a leg. That is subject to you satisfying the usual conditions like PRSI contributions and so on and must be certified by your GP. AFAIK the initial medical certificate is probably an integral part of the claim form.

I am not sure what will happen if you decide to resign because you feel that you must on health grounds. You might fall foul of a mean and unsympathetic "official" attitude that you have made yourself unemployed as distinct from falling unemployed or being out on sick leave by chance.

It might help to talk to Citizens Information as they are very helpful. link http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/

Finally, please keep in close contact with your professional medical advisers as that is vastly more important than any other aspect of matters presently. Best of luck.

Go to Your Doctor and get Certified unfit for Work, You should then be entitled to illness benefit
