Strange one tonight car cut out as I was driving into the drive and woundnt start after. Left it for 20 mins to half an he and went out and it started with a struggle but lots of black smoke. This cleared after a min and car seems to run fine now. It got a new cam and buckets and timing belt diesel and air filter and wiring for the injectors about 12000 to 13000 miles ago. Also had noticed the last day or so it was a bit sluggish about 80 on the motorway.
Any ideas where to start looking.

I'd check your fuel first...did you buy it from a reputable source? Also maybe check the fuel pump...

Yeah check the pump. Also check for any air leaks on the breather hoses.

Right changed filter today. Ended up being a pig to start after I changed the filter. Took it for a test drive and all seemed OK. Took it to work tonight and when i started it in the yard there was a good bit of black smoke from it and seemed a bit harder to start. Seemed to drive ok got to work left it parked for 3 hrs and when I went to start it it struggled to start and loads of black smoke agai drove home ok parked and tried to start it again and it won't start. Where do I head for now. No warning lights or anything on.
Breather pipe hises seem to be ok if there the ones to the front of the turbo u refer to.

Check the pump, sounds the the seals are gone. It would explain the black smoke and struggling to start.

Also, dont know if its cold enough yet in fairness but check the glow plugs. A diagnostics test can tell you if they are bad and will also let you know if there is anything else causing it to be hard to start.

If its a PD engined one, contaminated fuel is the likely cause. Drain tank into a white container and see what kind of shyte settles to the bottom.

Kept driving it through the problems and now seems to be ok. If it persists we are going changing the injector seals as it might be leaking and filling the head with air thus making it hard till the air escapes out while not running.
