If you have a subscription with eir that entitles you to free eir sports, is it possible to get a viewing card to decode these on a Sky box without an active Sky subscription?

I see there's second hand boxes going fairly cheaply on adverts.ie.

Yes, I read that if you contact eir they can supply a card.

I believe the card might need to be registered with the box also.

Is it possible to get the card and then get the box after or does the box have to be got first?

And can any old second hand Sky box be used for this purpose?

You can get the box at any time.
I used a cast-off Sky box for it .... after the card stopped working on a non-Sky box.
(and I absolutely definitely dislike the Sky box for this)
