Any former Junior Doctors here who have packed it all in?

Seriously contemplate it every few weeks. Several friends have left clinical medicine for medical education and some others changed completely to IT, management consulting, law, etc. All for different reasons and at different career stages. 1 friend was 6 months away from end of general surgery SpR - took some guts after a decade as an NCHD but it was the right choice for him.

An SHO on my girlfriend's last team left in July. Off to a research role abroad. Pretty ballsy move I think, he seems to be having a ball too so fair play to him.

    All the time.
There's some statistic, if i'm not mistaken, that says the majority of doctors that have left the profession are happy that they did.

It genuinely seems an awful job that's not worth it

Hi, From reading the above, it seems the future of medicine in Ireland is uncertain. I'm a mature student about to embark on a medical course and am trying to be realistic about future prospects. Would you do it all again? or indeed recommend a different career?
    Many thanks

I wouldn't do it again, but glad I've done what I've done. Intern year once is enough.

    Nonsense.

    Nonsense.

Why is that? I got through it, but I know friends of mine who had brutal jobs and nearly packed it in. I know others who did.

I don't at all agree that it's an awful job. I think it's a great job, I love going to work every day (unless there is OPD :pac:).

    Nonsense.

There are good days and there are bad days but overall it's awful. No longer see the attraction

You're obviously not cut out for it, no shame in that. I happen to like it.
