Scrappage

    Hi

Looking to buy a new car and I see a lot of dealers are advertising prices with include a scrappage discount. Basically we planned on upgrading current car (Alfa 147 05) when current NCT is up in Jan 17 but since the oil stump is bust and repairs have been quoted as €750, just going to try to get a new one.

My question is are dealers likely to accept my alfa as scrappage even though it needs repairs and is currently "off the road". I see some dealers offering a min of 2k for scrappage so is it worth getting these repairs done to avail of this scrappage offer?

Any advice would be very welcome. Thanks

Most of them need the car to have valid NCT and motor tax but if you were to contact the dealer directly they might take it off you either way.

Ok thanks. NCT and Tax not a problem. Will check it out with individual dealers

If they're calling it scrappage, then it shouldn't matter if it runs or if it's an Alfa, they'll still take it once it meets the conditions of the deal (being taxed recently or currently, being insured, being owned for a certain time)

Hi, apologies for resurrecting an old thread but I have to ask ...........

Yesterday, March 31st, the four motor companies -- Hyundai, Nissan, Toyota and Skoda -- offering the €4,000 scrappage deal terminated the offer.
Yes, all four closed the offer on the same day. (If I was of a sspicious nature, Iwould think there was collusion behind this decision).
    What I am wondering is:
    1) Why would these companies withdraw this offer at a notoriously quiet time of the year for new car sales?
    2) And more pertinently, do you think we will see the return of a similar scrappage scheme in the foreseeable future?
Thanks in advance for any reply.

To be fair, Hyundai widely publicised it ending for the last few weeks

    Nissan do scrappage quite regularly.

There is no conspiracy here. March 31st was an extension of what was supposed to finish at the end of January. Wait until May and something similar will be on again for the 172 reg change in July. January and July are the focus of market share for these companies.

    You reckon?
I was thinking along the same lines; I'm encouraged to read someone else (yourself) expects the same.
Waiting until July is no big deal for me.
    Thanks again.

March 31st marks the end of the first quarter sales targets. Its all marketing. They will bring it back later in the year when they are trying to outdo each other in the rankings again
