Looks quite good and brings up the question will they reform ?? Guns n roses did, stone roses did so why not ?

Never saw the band live (saw hfb in 2012 in Croke Park) but they were a great band. Although Liam can be a jackass sometimes he is a talented guy

I think 'jackass' is his talent. To be fair, it is something he excels at.

Back in the day everyone loved their retro-mashup tunes and rock'n'roll attitude, but they fizzled out creatively as a group a long time ago. A reforming of the band would be a nostalgia tour only, really, and to be honest the volatile nature of the brothers relationship would mean buying a ticket would be no guarantee of actually seeing them together on the stage at some point.

One of my favourite bands but ..

The more I hear him interviewed lately, the more I realise he's really a strange guy.

Noel has moved on, gotten a very successful band of his own, and has buried the hatchet with that silly little feud with Blur and Damon Albarn back in the day.

Liam was interviewed and asked what he thought of High Flying Bird's latest album and about "Heat Of The Moment" : "No, not having that at all. It sounds like Blur".

Obviously a lot of it may be for publicity... but he's come across more and more like one of those lads in their 50's with kids who keep talking about nothing but great times he had when he was 15. Move the f*ck on!

Looking forward to the documentary but I fell out of love with Oasis long ago. I saw them in their prime right as they then fell off a cliff. Liam's voice is awful now after years or booze and coke, on record he can fare a little better but the idea of a reunion and live shows? I don't know why fans bother wanting it, he will sound rubbish.

I hope this film is more focused on their heyday rather than going over the boring album periods.

I think it's nostalgia to be honest.. I know Noel throws in a couple of Oasis songs here-and-there in live shows to please crowds, but they're exactly that - crowd pleasers - and often get a better reception the most of the HFB stuff.

A reunion will inevitably not live up to the hype... but would I go with that in mind? Yeah, definitely... and I'd say most fans would too.

Liam has signed a record deal and Noel has been working on new stuff so I don't see a reformation in the next few years.

Agreed. Back in the day, I was just getting into music when they burst onto the scene. The attitude, the flare, the sound, they had it all in droves. I followed them closely until my tastes in music evolved a bit, but by then, Oasis were creatively spent anyway. The first two albums were milestones in the genre (plus a lot of the b-sides from those albums & singles were stupidly good too), but after that, the descent began. One or two albums later, and some standout songs aside, I'd lost all interest in them.

I'd enjoy the doc if it's a pure nostalgia trip, but I'd agree there's likely not much a future for the band should they reform. Liam's vocals are horrific these days too (which is a real shame, he had a stunningly good rock voice when he was young). He can't actually sing live these days (or after 1998 really), instead just shouting into the mic using swagger and attitude to carry the performance. Noel is a very talented guy though, and unsurprisingly has made a successful little band post-Oasis.

I do look forward to the doc though, again, for purely nostalgic reasons

Same as myself remember been into some awful rave music when I was 11/12 then I saw a performance on TOTP of Oasis doing Rock N Roll Star in 94, and after that everything changed for me. It was the attitude and sound that blew me away. Grew my hair out, learned the guitar and got into the all types of music cause of them. Those first albums are stone cold classics and as you said the B-sides were some of the best ever written. I'm a massive fan of Be Here Now, it's flawed but for me it was their last truly great album. After that it became a little hit and miss sadly. Although Noel's solo album's were a return to form imo.

The Gallaghers are always good for a entertaining interview and this should be no different and Oasis deserve a proper good documentary made on them especially one on their peak years, they were one of the biggest bands of the 90's. I'm definitely looking forward to this, with the producers of Amy behind it and looking like it be made the same way without any new footage of the guys on screen. I think it's the first time you hear their mum talk about them too.

Going by interviews with Noel and the trailer itself it's only going up the Knebworth gigs. So basically the peak years. Would love it to go up the crazy period during the making off Be Here Now.

Not so sure about that now, he was pretty much the perfect frontman for that time period, largely because of his vocals (sneery gob****e) but his vocals haven't been the same for well over a decade now so it leaves him with **** all.

I dunno, if it goes into the tabloid era like the trailer shows then it may pass Knebworth, especially given Liam's high profile marriage and divorce to Patsy Kensit. I know they were already fodder by then but right after Knebworth Liam bailed on MTV Unplugged and then the US tour and they couldn't go for a pint of milk without being harrassed by press on what was going on. Then the time Noel walked out on the US tour. All this would be too good to leave out.

A reunion is only a matter of time, or more to the point, a matter of how much!

Saw them many many times on their rise & at their peak, on their day a great live band, but I fear a reunion would be far from the standard they set at Loch Lomond, Knebworth & Cork...

Their tivoli gig was still my personal favourite mind.

True that, he keeps shooting it down but one day he will go against everything he's said about not reuniting and make a hefty lump sum, albeit not the amount he keeps touting.

As I said, only a matter of time. He's a smart guy, he won't do it until the time is absolutely right (ie, he feels Liam wants it and commits to it).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,547 ✭✭✭Agricola

I don't see anything in it for Noel, bar the lorry load of cash obviously. He's always said it's nice the fans are eager for it but it doesn't have the same appeal to the band members because they actually lived the experience the first time round. Like most reunited bands, it's going to be more pipe and slippers than coke and hookers and he probably feels he's grown up now, it was of it's time, he's moved on etc etc. Plus, he's still regularly standing in front of enormous crowds singing Oasis hits anyway, so it's not like he's missing the spotlight. He'd probably say he now has all the pros of the Oasis days and none of the cons.

But he does love money................................ :D

Sooner listen to Noels old Oasis stuff than HFBs. Apart from a few songs its pants for me.

Supersonic covers 1993 to 1996. A few articles have said it only goes up to Knebworth, as that was their zenith. I don't think the MTV Unplugged affair and cancelled US tour will be given too much screen time.

It looks deadly going by the trailer, and I can't wait for it. A bit of a nostalgia buzz.

I am quite sure a reunion will happen, but it will be pants. They ceased to be a decent live act post 1996, and 1994/1995 was their strongest years gig wise. All their boozing caught up with them after that. Liam's voice is shot to pieces and he can barely get a word out.

That's whats great about this documentary, it recognises that the years between 1993-1996 were pretty special, and really the only years worth covering. Everything that came after* was your standard meat and spuds pub rock, and things slipped into mediocrity gradually from there.

*A bit more effort and Be Here Now could have been salvaged, but that is for another thread.

I thought Don't Believe The Truth was class, up there with their best work. But that's also for another thread!

Well this was bloody outstanding in my view. What a band.

That was great stuff. Kind of felt it dragged on a bit near the end but it stopped perfectly.
Perfect mix between all the serious and funny stuff they went through.

Also loved the Q&A with Liam.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,423 ✭✭✭✭Outlaw Pete

    Q&A was a good laugh.

It's very much an authorized bio though.

Director says nothing was off the table but it's clear that a lot of negative stuff was avoided.

    Enjoyable nonetheless.

Didn't get the chance to go but can't wait too buy the blu ray when it comes out later in the month

Any chance of a Reunion in the nxt few years ???

Never saw them live together. It would not be the same if say Liam and the rest of the band reunite without Noel

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,882 ✭✭✭Saipanne

I thought it was excellent. Really funny throughout.

I hope they don't have a reunion because Liam's voice is gone. It's just sad to watch him strain like that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,123 ✭✭✭eviltimeban

Is it out on Blu Ray soon, or will it get a wider cinema release? I couldn't make the showing on Sunday, would've liked to have seen it in the cinema. I recently saw Eight Days a Week in the cinema and there was something special about watching it on the big screen.

Saying that, the blu ray will be an automatic purchase.

It actually started improving a lot towards the end of Beady Eye (apparently he had a voice coach / gave up fags or whatever)

Go to see this last night in Santry. Was brilliant. Highly recommended, even if you aren't a fan of Oasis.

Good attendance as well, which I was surprised with - about 2/3 full. Some genuinely laugh out loud moments, so it was good to have a bit of a "crowd" to share that with.

Felt quite emotional at times, especially as I lived through that era - bought Supersonic CD single the week of release, etc. It's amazing really, to see what they accomplished in such a short number of years. I would've liked a little bit of a delve into what happened next - Be Here Now, the "death of Britpop" - but that's another story really.

watched it last night and really enjoyed it but got an impression it was about there whole career but it was only up to the 1996 Knebworth show. Anyway was a very well put together doc, outstanding music, crazy stories
(Amsterdam ferry, story about there abusive dad, Noel being attacked with a hammer by a rivil school etc)

Rumours about a reunion have started, hopefully it will happen one day. Liam needs it a lot more than Noel tbh

Heard a lot of the stories before in Paul Gallagher's Brothers Oasis book. Still enjoyed it though.

I would really like them them to make another chronicling 97-2009. The cocaine fueled Be Here Now recording sessions, Bonehead and Guigsy getting the boot during the SOTSOG sessions etc etc.

Liam and Noel are credited as executive producers, so they definitely had say over what got in.

    Dead right, too.

They're all mates with Blur now anyway, so no need to bring it up.

Just picked up the DVD in Tower so will be interesting to see what the deleted scenes bring up. Could be some Blur / "battle of Britpop" references there.

As for making a part 2, it certainly wouldn't be as interesting. The Be Here Now era could've been slotted into this, as it sailed on the hype, but after that they became a fairly run-of-the-mill stadium band, not so much a phenomenon.
