In 2016 did anybody offer Scrappage for cash buyers or do you have to take some sort of Finance Deal? Was looking at second hand cars today in a dealer and very little discount with just cash. About 3.5% off price tag is all I was getting. Im thinking is it worth holding off and scrapping my 02 Avensis which isn't worth anything. Was hoping to get a 141 Corolla. Have 15k.

I don't think any scarapage deals were dependent on doing finance.
Also, discounts on used cars mean nothing, it's the price you pay that matters. There could be thousands in the difference between asking prices on identical cars. Some could give a huge discount and still be overpriced. They also may be bumping up the price they're giving you on the avensis using some discount.

Your 02 avensis is worth nothing to a dealer by the way, try and sell it privately if possible to get the most for it, then get your discount for not trading anything in.

Scrappage is just a fancy name for minimum trade-in value. It USUALLY does not depend on the way the car is financed.

0% finance deals might not be available with scrappage.

You're right - with the 02 avensis selling privately is not worth the effort... If you can get scrappage deal and finance the remaining part of the new car, that would be much better deal...

Hyundai as advertised left the impression that you had to avail of their finance. In reality you didn't have to avail of Hyundai finance, dealers happily offered scrappage on a cash deal. Anecdotally there seemed to be flexibility regarding terms and conditions pertaining to tax, NCT etc. also. Best advice is always to talk to dealers to see what they're willing to do.
