Lads I have a small leak from my cistern where it connects to the toilet bowl, there's no pipe it's just connected directly to the toilet bowl, as far as I know there's a gasket between the joint, does anyone know if theses are difficult to replace ? Is it a job I could do myself ? If not would anyone have any idea how much a plumber would charge to sort it out

I've done a couple and if you are a DIYer then its a DIY job but if you are a reluctant DIYer or don't have much spare time then leave it to a plumber.

There's normally a big fat donut type washer/gasket that is easy to replace but you will have to be happy disconnecting and reconnecting the water supply to the cistern plus if that washer/gasket is damaged any associated metal fittings holding it in place may by now be tricky to remove easily. Look under the back of the toilet and see if the (wing) nuts are rusted up or not. In any case you probably need the gasket itself plus the fittings needed to hold it in place.

You might want to check the toilet pan is firmly attached to the floor as if it moves that could start a leak again.

Loads of youtube videos on the subject.

Just before you go changing it just check to see if there is any water droplets on the underside of the cistern. Could be just condensation. Has fooled me in the past. Warm moisture laden air contacting the cold cistern will have water running down the cistern. That said I've seen the seal to fail too.
