Did I see a wild lizard?

I opened my front door to go out to my car and I got a fright.
I saw something scurry past, in front of me, and as far as I could make out, it looked like a lizard!

It wasn't the right shape for a mouse or rat and it was long, so hardly a frog.
Are there wild lizards in Ireland?
I'm in Dublin, by the way.

Pretty sure that's a lizard, not a newt.

We have wild lizards in Ireland, I've seen them from about an inch long to about six inches long but I don't know how big they can grow. Anyway they're completely harmless and very cute up close. They eat some of the things you don't want in your garden like snails and small slugs so they are a welcome visitor.

Fair enough, I didn't look too close, just assumed newt.

You're right, your pic is of a Newt.

beveragelady is right in that we also have a single Lizard species.

Thanks guys. I never thought I'd see a wild lizard/newt in my garden!
I'll keep an eye out in future and see if I can get a picture.

It's a Newt in the picture. But we do have the Common Lizard widespread throughout much of Ireland.

Pic is of a Newt but they are not the fastest of 'movers', so if the shape is right and yours 'scurried' it was most likely a Lizard.......

Slow worm are naturalised in the Burren.
