Dublin Airport Staff Transport?

    Hi There,
So I am posting here just to ask about something that I am not really sure about...
I will be starting to work in the airport very soon.
I was called for interview and was successful in the job I applied to which will be based in the airport.
I was informed that the company I will be working for provide something called a hop on, hop off service for staff (outside of bus hours) e.g. - 2:00AM.
What does this mean? Does this hop on, hop off service collect you somewhere close to your home? or literally at your home?
I am asking this because I will be working shifts and might not finish until 2:00AM or I may even have to start at 2:00AM and there are no public buses running during this time.
Thanks for all the help in advance.

If you post in this thread one of the DUB regulars will explain it I'm sure:

OP, you've been offered a job, why don't you ask your new employer for the details. We don't know (1) where you live and (2) the company you will be working for so how on Earth can anyone here answer your questions?

BTW, there are public buses running all night - most of the Aircoach services that I'm aware of run through the night.

Moved to Aviation & Aircraft, simply as it's frequented by more folks familiar with airport operations and services provided by the employers there for their staff

    As stated above,
Aircoach run 24 hours a day (albeit reduced frequency during the night) and offer a reduced airport staff rate. They run from Greystones, Killiney and Dun Laoighaire. Most buses go through the city centre.
    http://aircoach.ie/

Then there is Airport Hopper, which offers buses from Leixlip,Lucan, Maynooth, Clondalkin, Tallaght and Liffey Valley. They also offer a staff rate.
    https://airporthopper.ie/

Then ask your employer about this hop on,hop off option that they told you about. If it is something they offer then no point asking us about it.

Just asked and they said that they will give me details when I start my training.
They did say though, that it picks you up from your house but does not drop you back? They said that normal buses run through the night?
I'm going to be honest here I live in Swords and would obviously need the number 41 bus but this does NOT run through the night? I'm guessing I would have to take a taxi if my shift ends before the bus times? Or is there any other bus that runs through the night towards or to swords that anyone knows of? I've done a bit of research but it doesn't seem very clear...
Thanks for all of the help, much appreciated!

There's your answer then.....they will tell you in training.
41 will sort you out most of the time. Have you been given an idea of roster patterns yet?
Taxi might be an better option if you are in Swords than a ride share system to be honest.

Is cycling to work an option ? Fairly handy from Swords to the airport.

I see. Thanks. Can I ask why taxi would be better? :)

Taxi from Swords is approx €10. You get collected when you want, from your door.
Ride share might not be from your doorstep, might not be direct, might have muliple pick-ups along the way. Depends on how much your employer deducts for the perk.

    EDIT:

Friend of mine who uses the service to get to work for 4am is picked up at 2am, she is the first area on the pick up list and pretty much the first stop. She arrives at the airport at 03:30, 1.5hrs from Drumcondra to the airport and it costs €6 per journey
E6 is a good price but is it worth wasting an hour of your precious sleep at that time of the morning? Paying the extra in a taxi might be more worth it.

Ive never lived in Drumcondra so not sure, whats the taxi cost to the airport? 12-15?

I wouldn't like that personally, 1.5hrs in the middle of a night on a bus just to go somewhere effectively up the road. Google tells me 1.5hrs of a walk and 25mins of a cycle, although in the middle of the night that probably wouldn't be an option.

No reason why cycling at night would be an option. High vis plus lights and you'll be grand.

Weather and safety I'd imagine would be considerable factors.

    I don't envy them anyway!

Well swords covers a large area but parts of it are no more than 5 minutes cycle from the airport.

I cycled a lot at night and never had any problems. Roads are quieter, pedestrians are less, you can hear a lot more. The only risk that taxi drivers demonstrate a little more crazy at nighttime but are less tied to the bus/cycle lanes than during the day.

Also, I suspect weather is as variant at night as it is during the day?

My daughter has just finished working 6pm-2am shifts at the airport for the last 2 years, and we live in Swords. She got a taxi home 99% of the time, unless she was working a sat or sun night when her loving parents picked her up. She had an account with Halo for the taxis and normally cost around €14 euro at time of the night - we live on the northern side of Swords - hope that helps

Turns out it was the (logonhopon) option, they don't take you home that's the only thing... I don't think any buses run to Swords during really late at night for example, the aircoach doesn't go near Swords. I'm guessing the taxi would be the only option? Does anyone know if airport staff get a discount on taxi's or not? People working for DAA?
    Thanks Again.

Taxi's are private business's so you wont get a discount at the rank.
Unless a Swords/Malahide company offer a rate to airport staff .....but considering how many staff live in the area I cant see that being a great business plan.

OP, I understand asking questions, but we cant present you with all the answers, which is the way you are coming across. Part of the maturity process is figuring out these things for yourself. (Can I swop late shifts? Does the late shift payment cover the taxi fare home? Are the late shifts easier/harder/worth it? Can I get more early shifts?)
You could ask these at your place of employment too, Im sure they have had this situation in the past.
