So my buddy went into the local petrol station to get some petrol.

He sees the price as 128.9. So he fills the tank, 80 something euro.

Then checks the pump and the actual price per litre was 129.9???

He's freaking out here talking about getting onto consumer affairs. Obviously his weekend is ruined. Anyone see other garages trying to defraud places like this?

So his weekend is ruined over 61cents

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,394 ✭✭✭SCOOP 64

Would he have moved on if the price showed 129.9 ?

When I used to run a petrol station many years ago, there was a lag between the time the pump price went up (usually first thing in the morning) and the time my manager (who ran several shops) could make it out to change the price on the tall sign (usually a little later in the morning). We tried to put up notes on the pump to alert the customers when possible, but sometimes it was too busy. If someone complained, we gave them the difference without any trouble, but only if they said something at the time they paid. After all, the price was clearly on the pump.

I used to work as an assistant manager in a petrol station when you had to get a fecking ladder to change the price on the sign.

Thread title really didn't need these exclamation marks. Or letters. Or thread.

    Daft.

come on guys.. have a heart.... the poor little petal is probably left short to buy his mochachino...... this can be devastating.
Can we have a whip around for the OPs friend...maybe it will improve his weekend...a cent each should do, though we might have to round it up to 5 cents each :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,799 ✭✭✭✭Akrasia

By putting 80 euros worth of fuel into the car you're probably spending more than 60 cents just to carry the weight of that fuel around with you.

Solution, only fill your car up by 3 euros at a time. The fumes you'll be driving on will actually make your car lighter.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 561 ✭✭✭clogher71

Here we go again, it's easy to see why.....there was so many silly responses to the Toyota towbar one......and not by the OP.....

Also starve yourself to a subsistence level and carry no passengers and take all unnecessary weight from your car including unused seats.

You'll waste more petrol constantly driving in and out of the petrol, station than you'll save on the extra weight ;)

For a pisstake thread on the towbar one this is actually getting some bizarre responses.

Used to work in a petrol station manning the pumps. U' d get a few knobs of customers that'd treat u like dirt.
They'd want 20quid of petrol and to annoy them back I'd put in 19.99 instead. They'd be foaming at the mouth with the 1 penny rip off!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,488 ✭✭✭Bazzy

Worked in one back in my college days

if someone paid with a card and put in 20.02 or whatever I would charge that amount

This was back in the days of typing in the numbers on the credit card machine

One very busy evening a lady with the notion came in and it was £40.07 ( Pre euro)

Paying with a credit card I typed in the 40.07 and she had a sh1t fit about the 7p

    Shouting and roaring

She said real loud " The 7 p is the bit that spills onto the ground when its taken out"

I was finishing up the following week so I told her it wasnt my fault she couldnt put petrol into her car

She wouldnt sign the slip and was furious left without the card the works.

I really hope I didnt ruin her weekend

Sure it's the new in thing now. I went to get coke zero in tesco and they only had diet coke ... Weekend ruined. Started counselling tomorrow

BTW 80/1.28 means about 62 litres of petrol. You're friend was overcharged about 60c

If a weekend is ruined for 60c you need help....

Both threads have one thing in common - both have wild hysterical sensationalist "headlines" as if they were written by independent.ie or other rag tabloid.

Then you read them and its a total non story. The toyota tow bar thread was even worse as it was just a "thought" and they were far too impatient to wait a couple of days and their lives were "ruined"

This thread is about 60c on an €80 fill and it has "ruined" their weekend. They want to complain to consumer affairs, will probably spend hours moaning and ringing about - all for SIXTY CENT. !!!!

God help these people if they ever have a real issue to contend with.
