    Hey,

I have a question that im not sure if i know the amswer or not.

i was walking down gardener street today which is a notorious clamping spot.

About 8 cars were clamped but i noticed one was a disabled persons car,had the sticker thing and looking inside was modifed for use.

Now to clear it up i couldnt see any paid parking ticket and due to this the car was clamped.

Im assuming its fully legal to clamp a car if it has no ticket but then im unsure as disabled people need to be given a bit of leeway/bit of assistance regarding where they park and how to get to places.

Can anyone voice an opinion on this?

And inb4 people start saying clampers are heartless so and sos whod clamp their mother etc

    thanks

Was the vehicle parked in a Dublin City Council parking space or on private property? parking in DCC spaces is free for all vehicles displaying a Disabled Person’s Parking Permit.

If the parking permit was the wrong side up then it can't be seen if it is valid.

Ye thats the permit i saw and it was right on the dashbord,it was a space on public street, gardener street so not private property.

Wow so they can park for free and this clamper clamped a disabled persons car,i had a feeling it was wrong

Could the permit have been out of date ?

Disabled people, as far as practicable should be treated exactly the same as anyone else. There was a great campaign running waaaay back in the day when I was at University in Edinburgh that had an a guy standing next to a girl in a wheelchair which read:

"We have problems in bed, she's a screamer."

Always stuck with me that - that and the strange recurrent rash.

Was it a clearway at the time it was clamped?

Only a wanker would clamp that car. FFS. Let's suppose that car owner might be in a wheelchair, or have difficulty walking. They get back to their clamped car. How the hell are they supposed to get home now? No need to clamp a disabled person's car. Absolute wankery.

How's anyone meant to get home once the car is clamped? Dublin Buses all lean these days and assuming they can drive I'm sure they own a mobile phone and are capable of using it.

I always hate to see on gardiner st the way they clamp the hire cars, I know in spain or France they would clamp hire cars aswell, it's just always think it's wrong to clamp a tourist

No evidence (disabled) driver of vehicle resides in Dublin, could be long trek out the schticks.

You'd say wrong. Although given you've no further comment other than this allow me to feed you a bit.

As I have asked, why should a disabled person be treated any different? If there was reason to clamp the car then it should be clamped. Frankly it's pretty condescending and more than a little patronising of the person concerned to assume otherwise. If the clamper is recalled and there is a genuine reason then they should show some discretion, but the act of clamping - absolutely not.

Putting that all aside for the moment, I'm absolutely sure that no one has ever abused a disabled parking permit, or faked one and no clamper ever has felt a real sense of indignation of seeing a car with a badge pull up and single occupant stride out off on an errand. I'm sure if anything like that ever did occur the clamper would immediately assume a miracle had taken place and not that someone was taking the piss.

    So?

Perhaps the disabled driver is loaded and the guy two cars down also clamped has 15 kids, has just lost his job and donates all his money to people less well off than he. Who's judging here who's more able to pay the clampers?

Cars parked in 'part time' clearways, when the clearway kicks in, are usually lifted onto a truck, brought to a nearby free parking space, dropped and clamped. It may explain what happened.

Not sure if this is a clearway, but the link below is an example of restricted parking where they'll clamp or tow then clamp IIRC if vehicles are parked there outside the relevant times.

    https://www.google.ie/maps/@53.3318849,-6.2773147,3a,75y,201.81h,61.42t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sbka2PEHBY6B9FeFZs9x4Ig!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

As you can see it looks innocuous enough! The sign isn't the best marked thing I've ever seen!

Gardiner Street is a clearway at rush hour. The car parking ceases at 4PM.

    Irrelevant.

They ring up, the clamper comes out, they pay the fine, the clamp is removed, they drive off.

    Just like everyone else does.

Disabled badges have free parking but must still adhere to parking regulations.

OP, what time of day was it?
