Hi, im planning a trip to new york in november.

I was in America last year and the Visa was for two years so is still valid.

problem is it got thrown away in the rubbish sometime after i got back and now ive none, question is do i need to apply again or is the first visa still on file?

Travel agent says they may not send out another one because my old one is still valid but i should be ok anyway?

Anyone on here no what the story is regarding this situation.

    Thanks in advance.

Do you have any stamps or stickers in your passport from the last time you traveled?

This information from the US consulate in Hong Kong will also apply to your visa (tl;dr you must reapply): https://hongkong.usconsulate.gov/visa_lost.html Absolutely do report your old one lost in case someone has found it and is traveling on it (to the US embassy here: https://ie.usembassy.gov/visas/)

By visa do you probably mean the ESTA? As its name suggest this is electronic and so you cannot throw away the bit of paper.

Go to the website and try check existing application
    https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/esta/

Good point. We don't know if the OP required a visa in the US, though (he might not be an Irish citizen, or he might have had to apply for a visa for other reasons, such as a criminal record or previous overstay).

OP, see if the stamp/sticker contains information about your previous visa (if it is a visa and not the ESTA). Call the embassy and someone should be able to advise you.

If the OP has a visa then he will probably have a large full page stamp in his passport with the date of validity written on it. He will also have a small entry stamp somewhere as well. If he had something like a J1 visa then he would also have a bit of paper, which is not strictly the visa but associated with it.

The OP would need to give more info.

If the op says valid for 2 years 99% deffo means an esta. Op you don't need any paperwork for the esta

If it's the ESTA then it will be associated with your passport number, no need to re-apply.
