Online Training Spar

A friend of mine got a job in Spar at the deli counter recently. She has been given ~18hrs of online training to do AT HOME, with exams at the end in order for her to be fully trained up. No pay when doing it at home. This training is watch videos and answer questions. I don't work in retail Is this normal ?

I'd be looking for time back, I'd also get onto NERA, sounds like Spar are becoming chancers.
Imo...working for free is illegal in Ireland, and work specific training would come under that.
