Walter Mitty, Politics Cafe, Denny Crane's School of Law?

The point I was trying to ninja edit is a little bird told me that there was talk of a sub forum to LD along the lines of Walter Mitty/Politics Cafe. I was looking forward to a new home, but alas it never materialised and therefore I'm here punching well above my weight with you chaps and chapettes.

Was it decided it wasn't a good idea? Perhaps that could be revisited? The modding recently while completely justified and done with skill and good humour has stifled some of the more ridiculous threads that while not breaching the charter on legal advice grounds had the potential for some pontificating of the more hilarious kind. If not a sub forum perhaps some of the more 'fun' threads where the OP shows a sense of humour could be transferred to After Hours? Seriousness of the issue dependant, naturally.

For anyone lucky enough not to know to whom I'm referring to, behold the genius of both scripting, casting and acting; well two outta three isn't bad.

Yeah you're right, strike the AH thing, any chance of a sub forum?

I went on a great quest a few years ago and found me the a supplier of the outdoor chairs from Boston Legal. Can't be a lawyer with out the chairs!

A subforum had been discussed previously. It was shot down on the basis that the existing LD forum does not have the traffic to justify a subforum.

However, maybe an off-topic thread might be some sop to the notion?

If you build it, they will come :)
Mann: Ray, people will come, Ray. They'll come to Iowa for reasons they can't even fathom. They'll turn up your driveway, not knowing for sure why they're doing it. They'll arrive at your door as innocent as children, longing for the past. "Of course, we won't mind if you have a look around," you'll say. "It's only twenty dollars per person." They'll pass over the money without even thinking about it; for it is money they have and peace they lack.

Mark: Ray, just sign the papers.

Mann: And they'll walk out to the bleachers, and sit in shirt-sleeves on a perfect afternoon. They'll find they have reserved seats somewhere along one of the baselines, where they sat when they were children and cheered their heroes. And they'll watch the game, and it'll be as if they'd dipped themselves in magic waters. The memories will be so thick, they'll have to brush them away from their faces.

Mark: Ray, when the bank opens in the morning, they'll foreclose.

    Mann: People will come, Ray.

I'm not sure a thread would do it. There have been some good threads, the Freeman mega merge being a prime example, but really it's the disparate threads of people 'just popping in' that seem to be good for a laugh. The why are Judges all **** - when one judgement is taken completely out of context or why do taxis have to have a bail of hay in the back, or the why was the guard rude to me, my ickle feelings got bruised.

I'm very surprised there isn't more traffic as this forum is fairly unique. That said perhaps this want of more riff raff is not a positive one, perhaps it is better to keep it as a proper legal discussions forum and leaving the badger baiting to AH.

Frankly all it takes for me is someone with a genuine query and a bit of a sense of humour for me to try and explain something, badly in my case of course, not matter how silly the particular topic. Perhaps the bar to entry is exactly where it should be. I suppose also that no matter how trivial granny's bush seems to me it's a serious issue for the OP so perhaps relegating them to a sub forum is rather arrogant.

I still think a thread for garda related queries is a good idea though!

Is there a silent contingent of people who would use this forum?

So far, there hasn't been what I would call overwhelming support for the idea (on the basis of this thread and previous threads where it was suggested.)

We are discussing this behind the scenes in a typically cloaks-and-daggers fashion btw.

Maybe just a bit more indulgence with the silly and/or anti-authoritarian stuff and move it to this very thread. Think this thread's title would serve well.

Where else would I be able to ask if 'JudgeRinder' is a hookup site for the judiciary?

Anti-authoritarian? That would mean practically every viewpoint I possess being sent to this thread.

I'll rephrase that as anti-Gardai, anti-legal establishment (but not quite Freeman) so!

Guards on a power trip, can they ask me that?, out of touch judges, insurance premiums are lawyers' fault, bewigged fat cats sort of stuff...

On a trial basis, I think we will opt for a light-hearted superthread rather than asking for a new forum at this point. I know that a superthread has limitations and a forum would be better in the long run but I do not want to ask admin to create a forum that will not have any traffic.

As such, I would like suggestions for a name for such a superthread, bearing in mind that it could also end up being the name of the forum.

    Very much obliged.

Someone told me there were some good suggestions previously if anyone has the thread handy still.

If it's gets selected I'll be subbing for a name change.

You could have taken that option a few times now... :p

I had a look at the names suggested in the last thread and they were mostly only appropriate for Freeman threads rather than general lighthearted law related discussion.

How about "de minimis non curat lex"?

(Should fool/deter those who might be attracted by a name like "Super fun party legal stuff chat").

    Den minimis noncured Lex Luther?

There has to be a text speak Dublin slang pun in there somewhere. Granted the above isn't it.
