So will Quintana take more time on Froome or can Contador do something. Will we see again the Benny Hill like Froome speed pedalling up the mountian where he was born (methaphorically speaking ...in cycling terms)

And here are the fastest times ever ...See who is in at number 6....And SKY never wanted to use him as a climber !!!

2013 Vuelta.... Nico's best performance in a GT. That was the year when he was at his lightest weight yes?

We might see the record being broken today as the stage profile is a lot easier compared to Stage 18 in 2013.

Yes he was his lightest at about 66KG
Was that again this year at San Seb and Olympics but as you can see prone to infection when body fat % doe to about 3%

Such a pity as great climber when light ...The other day Philip Gilbert was saying that Covodongo was too hard for him as he was too heavy at 67kg ...
Nico climbs as 69KG all year ...just shows how good he really is

But can'tlose the weight like Froome, Nibali, Wiggins or Poels who can get get scarecrow thin except for a few weeks in July/Aug when weather very hot and when easier to not get infections
That is why SKY wanted hmas a rouler I suppose and not a climber

Tinkoff are really eating into the breakaway's lead...
It's down to just over two minutes with 60km still to go.

Carlton seems to think Oleg flew in last night and gave the team a bollicking and has them chasing stage wins now

power meter. I would have assumed, given the talk about them over the last day or two, it was a widely known what it was. sorry.

I'd have a better chance had you typed 'PM's' instead of 'PM' :pac:

Gianluca Brambilla, who was doing very well in the GC classification (11th before the start of the stage), lost a bucket load of time today (5'14" behind Froome). It's possible though that he is not focusing on GC anymore now that his Etixx team mate De La Cruz is in the top-10.

I think Brambilla was focusing on GC but he is not a climber for the harder longer climbs.

Looks like Yates is goingup the GC and for me is a better bet than Chaves in the longer mountains to come

Scarponi also a good bet for longer stages as is Sammy Sanchez...so those three shoudl rise up GC

Completely agree about Scarponi. He rode like a beast in the Giro, and looks to be on form now. These short sharp climbs don't suit him, so I am impressed he is doing so well on them.

I also agree on Yates; he is riding better than Chaves, and would be doing even better if he didn't have to work for him twice.

Brambilla either had a problem yesterday, or he saved his batteries for today. There is no way he loses so much on a climb like yesterday if he is healthy and fighting for GC. He actually beat Valverde and the rest of the GC guys on Naranco (Stage 9) an extremely similar finish.

I think he is targetting today's stage. I have backed him and Felline.
