Sorry if this is the wrong place. I have no idea where to put this question.
I have to drive to Laois at the weekend. Is the traffic usually very heavy and are there likely to be tailbacks or delays on the way to Laois?

Yes. I used to live very close to the picnic. There are diversions and roads open with two lanes going both directions, I suppose depending which way you're going to be coming from. There's a few different routes into stradbally so while it's busy, it shouldn't be too bad. As far as I know there's shuttle buses that'll go from portarlington and Portlaoise too.

Laois is a biggish place. Only areas around stradbally will be affected and even then its mostly Friday evening.

They'll be no affect on Portlaoise, portarlington areas.

There's two/three maybe roads from Portlaoise to stradbally. All traffic from the south west will be coming off the motorway at the second exit on the m7, which will load up coming into the town, and the ballyroan roads.

Carlow and traffic from that end will be coming into stradbally by the other side of it.

Offaly/Westmeath/Galway etc would surely be coming in the mountmellick road, meeting the south west traffic around the roundabout at the garda station and it'll lag to either the stradbally rd or the ballyroan rd/rathineska.

The two summers I was there it was busy enough but nothing to panic about, the gardai had it under control for the most part.

Went one year. Never again. Was there ten minutes and drove straight home.

    There is NO picnic!

Try to get up there as early as possible so you don't have to pitch your tent next to the toilets.
