Split and Hvar, Croatia nightlife and accommodation

    Hi,

There are 2 of us heading to Split and Hvar next week. We are in our early 30s and, where we would like to have a look around the place during the day, we would also like good nightlife. Just have a few questions.

    1. Is nightlife during the week in Hvar (Tue and Wed) and Split (Thurs and Fri) any good in September?
    2. Should we go with Travago or Airbnb for accommodation close to everything or are there any other suggestions?

Any lessons learned or tips on these locations including getting to Hvar via ferry

    Thanks.
    G.

Both decent spots but generally quieter in September than peak season. Mid week will be quieter and possibly earlier nights than weekends :)

It depends on what type of accommodation, HomeAway is an option I went with recently to get a decent self catering apartment in Dubrovnik. Pays to shop around!

Split is a decent size city but around the port and waterfront is where all the life is for visitors and tourists is located. You can get apartments in that area of the city for reasonable money. Food and drink are always more expensive on the waterfront than up the side streets. So wander around there for small bars n restaurants.

Hvar is definitely a tourist based spot but as Sully said it will be quieter during September. I never stayed onland there, was always sleeping on a boat but its a good spot. Avoid the bars by the waterfront as they are a complete rip off, €10+ for a decent cocktail €6-8 for beers, when off the side streets you can get the same for under €5.. same goes for food. There is a crazy aussie bar, or a bar full of aussie staff, up one of the side streets off the port and always lively, a mix of tourists, locals and staff from some of the boats go there.
