    Hey guys,

I know this is probably old ground as far as threads go, but I'm in the dark and could do with some advice:

So, iPhone 5s user here, happy with Apple and getting ready for my next phone upgrade. However, I'm not happy about their prices and I'm very tempted to jump ship to the Samsung S7, but I still have a niggle to go iPhone 7 tho...... Just wondering if I can pick the brains of any android users on here about a few things first?

I've checked out the tech differences of both, camera spec, screen, resolution, battery, all that kind of stuff. I'm more interested in the software similarities and differences as I've zero experience with Android phones.

I currently use GoodReader on my 5s for PDFs etc, are there any similar apps for Android? I also have many ePub books in iBooks, and I'm quite fond of the style and layout of the app - is there an android alternative that makes the grade?

What about camera apps such as Camera+ or Hipstamatic? These are great apps, are there options like these of the same kind of quality?

    Other concerns:

    A decent podcast app
    -movie player app
    -movie editing app
    -music player app

I'm also curious about customization of android phones, I like a minimalist feel - is that possible with Android?

What about music playlists - I have many in iTunes, how can they be transferred to an android phone? How do I make and maintain playlists on an android phone?

Does anyone also know if the Samsung S7 allows you to create a wifi hotspot like the iPhone?

If all of the above are reasonably covered I just might make the jump and see what all the fuss is about the other side... ;)

Thanks in advance for any info and/or advice, and apologies for all the questions.

    JC5

To put it short and simple, theres nothing an iphone can do that an android cant,in the grand scheme of things,in fact theres a lot more you can do with android that you cant do with apple o.s. you can have an android as minimilist as you prefer and yes there are lots of book readers (i use aldiko) and movie and picture editing apps and podcasts.i dont have a samsung s7 but i would guess it allows you to create a wifi hotspot as most android phones do.make the move to the wonderful world of android,i bet you will wonder why you didnt do it sooner.

I recently moved from a 5s and bought a Moto G4. Not an upgrade, more of a sidestep but I was happy to give it a try for the price. I'm really liking it. I have it set up similar to my old iPhone screens - 3-4 pages of apps that I use, and anything that I don't use regularly, I just leave it in the app drawer, and don't add it to the home screen.

I've installed Aldiko and find it has a very similar feel to iBooks. There are lots of apps for transferring your playlists from iTunes, I installed iSyncr, the free version copies playlists of up to 100 songs, one playlist at a time, or there's a paid version if you need more songs/want to copy more than one playlist at a time. I also downloaded a few music players, and am currently trying Pulsar and I like it so far. I don't use movie player/editing apps, so can't recommend anything, but as the other posters have said, anything that you need, you'll find an option there.
