    Hi.

I'm a bit confused, as I'm hearing different things from different suppliers (no surprises there). So I'm at wall plate level of a 1550sqft block build bungalow. I'm installing an airtight membrane and MHRV. Attic will be a cold space. My question is, will I need suspended ceiling to allow for a service void for installation of MHRV ducting? I don't want to incur the extra cost of putting in a suspended ceiling as budget is all ready tight, plus I don't want low ceilings in my house. Is it that big of a deal to run the ducting through the attic and maybe cover it with insulation. Thanks, any advice would be great.

I wouldn't be quick to remove ducting services from heated envelope, this is normally considered at design stage?
Factors to consider include but not limited to:
    Air-tightness
    Duct type
    Duct insulation
    Length of routes
Electrics especially pendant and Spot lights

    Etc

So you recommend a ducting service. Any idea, even a ballpark figure, how much would it cost to drop the ceiling for a house 1550sqft?

How were you planning on installing the ceiling before this. If fixing slabs to the joists you'd still have to timber baton the ceiling to level it (which is a pain). When you price both up there won't be much difference in it.
Only con is the ceiling will be about 4" lower

Look for MFceilings on here and send him a PM you won't go to far wrong.

Washer is the actual unit going to be fitted?
Where ia the air intake and extract pipework penetrating the envelope

What is the current finish floor to ceiling height set at, before this problem arose?

perhaps you could raise the height of the finished floor in the attic with "counter battens" deep enough to allow the ducting to be well insulated, protected and with minimum bends

My attic is also a cold space and I ran ducting over and through ceiling joists. Wrapped ducting over joists with insulation and covered ducting running through joists with loft insulation.
    Worked out well.
