Hello, I have a lot of books on cars and the like. You could say that I have a small collection of sorts. And I have an aul Carina E sitting up in the corner of the yard. The wife has been at me for the last few years to get rid of it, and so with the age of it I'm now thinking that I may get into aul yokes. That would also shut the wife up as it is a classic now. So can any of ye recommend books to start off buying about old yokes? Something to get the interest going and let the wife see?

    John.

Besides books, there are plenty of classic car magazines published. Might be good for having a flick through if you are only starting off an interest, probably a bit more variety in them than books, which could tend to be on one particular car or make and be a bit dry to read.

Cheers horse, good idea on the magazines. Cheaper too. I'll have a gander in Easons when I'm back up in Dublin and pick up a few. That will show the wife that I'm serious and hopefully shut up about it!
The young lad's mates do be tellin me that the auld Carina is a classic now and worth money now. An these young bucks are into their Bmws and the like. But shure you could say everything is worth money!

Disaster lads! Disaster! I took a wee spin down to Dublin this morning and went into Easons. They have a fierce selection of magazines altogether. I must have spent over an hour looking at them. In the end I picked one with an aul Mercedes on the front. A right classy looking yoke. When I got home I sat at the kitchen table while the wife made the tea. I made sure that she seen me reading through it. And she says “Ye mustn’t be too serious if ye didn’t buy a book on it…” So I had choice but to prove my seriousness by clearing out one of the sheds for the dogs to use. The dogs have been living in the car for the last couple of years. But when I went to shift them I seen that it’s not a fecking Carina at all! It’s a fecking Corolla! What do ye think of that?!?

Well horses, this evening after a bit of work in the fields I took a fit of looking inta this old yoke. The dogs have the inside in a bit of a mess but after a bit of a scrub down with warm water and jays fluid it smells a lot better. I'll let it dry out for a few days and then get the wife to hoover it out. But a fecking Corolla hey?! I'm still laughing at that!

I'm still laughing about it! And I even had the young lad and his mates convinced! And I thought that these young bucks know everything!! In fairness now alot of ****e built up around it and on top of it over the last 10 years or so. With that and the weeds growing it was fair obscured.

The young lads mates called in this evening and I told them about the Carina actually being a fecking Corolla. They couldn't believe it! Still laughing at that! After all these years there was me thinking that it was a Carina! Ha ha Would ye be believing that?!?! Even know I'm not sure if ta believe it or not!
And I made sure to tell them that they be knowing feck all about cars. These young bucks think that they be knowing everything! The wife said that she's give it a quick hoover over the weekend if it has dried out enough. Even she can't believe that it's a fecking Corolla! That's gas! Just wait until I tell the lads in the local tomorrow. They'll fall off their stools! It'll be great gas altogether.

Well Patty how are ye lad? I'm still tender from last night. The craic was 90! The lads nearly fell off their stools. A fecking Corolla! McGinty spat out beer when I told. Mighty craic altogether! The only one that didn't laugh was Jimmy. Some people call him Mad Jimmy on account of him going stone mad for about 10 or 15 minutes about two year ago. T'was lucky he wasn't barred at the time. I never call him that, he is just Jimmy to me. Anyways he turned and looked at me, well Mad Jimmy doesn't look, it's more of a stare. He stared at me. If you ever looked into the eye of a cow and held her gaze for over a minute you'd be knowing what I be meaning. Not that she looks through you, but rather she looks deep inside you. Mad Jimmy's stare is no different. Bone shaking to experience.
Reminds me of a time some year ago when I was hold the gaze of a good old girl of a heifer. She was on the most part a grand old girl, but she could take a fit on wickedness. And sure enough she bucked up. I had to teach her a lesson with a few slaps of a shovel. Eventually she bowed down to my seniority. Don't get me wrong, I do not take pleasure in that, but all the other cows were watching and you can't be letting them be getting ideas.
But 2 days later she got her own back. She stood on my foot and broke it. I knew that she did it on purpose. But I said to myself "I'll let you have this one girl, I'll let you have this one..." But from that point on we were back on a level keel and had regained our respect for each other.
Anyways, Mad Jimmy turned and said, well more of a deep mumble, he mumbled "Corollas are grand cars. Fair play to ye." That was recommendation in itself to be carrying on with this work.

Good on ye Patty lad. I'll get the young lad to take a snap of it. You be a man of few words Patty. You reminds me of Kevin "the half mute" McGee a few mile from here. Nice enough chap but very miserly with his words. He is a gas man all the same.

No update for ye lads, the weather has been raining cats and dogs the last few days. And I have been out of sorts as Tuesday I woke up with a does of the night ****s. I'm still not right. But at least the wife has stopped harping on about shifting the wreck of a car. She is starting to warming up to having a wee jaunt in a vintage at some stage.
