A bit worrying that in many of these incidents it isn't just one of the two pilots turning up over the alcohol limit but both of them. Makes you wonder if it's a far more common thing in the industry for the flight crew to have a few pints together the night before and turn up over the limit the next day.

Probably had 3 or 4 whisky's and thought they'd be grand but at 40%+ abv it'll remain in your system longer.

Are pilots tested on a regular basis in the UK or is random?

Assume it's a zero blood mg limit for commercial flying?

For pilots and air traffic controllers - 20mg of alcohol for 100ml of blood

Same as HGV PSV drivers so, ie; little or nothing would put you over.

But I wonder how they were found out? 3 or 4 whiskeys will not leave a smell on your breath.

Should have mandatory substance testing before every shift. way too much responsibility to have any amount of alcohol or prescription medication in the system of a polit

Tip offs sometimes come from the hotel staff at crew hotac.

Would it not be an EASA defined limit?

Would it not be an EASA defined limit?

20mg of alcohol for 100ml of blood is the easa limit. if the national limit is higher then the easa limit applies.

Not true. It's country specific and sometimes zero or not far off it.

Can you link the EASA regulations?

Agree, acting the idiot and being loud. Hotel staff know who comes and who goes....... Two d!ck heads falling in the door at 3 in the morning with a pick up at 8 will certainly get alarm bells ringing. I have zero sympathy or empathy for these individuals if convicted.

Not always acting the maggot! Recently a crew were corralled and bagged after a tip off from the hotac. Seems there were 2 dead heading freighter guys with them who were enjoying the crew discount till the early hours but not operating for a few days......
