DA Review

I've been in receipt of a small UK pension for a few months and ticked the relevant box when I applied for my Irish State pension recently.
It was then brought to our attention (during a recent inspection visit) that the UK pension amount would affect my wife's DA payment. My error, I thought the UK State pension (as with the Irish State pension) wouldn't affect her DA.
My wife has since received a letter notifying her that her weekly DA amount would be reduced. We understand the reason for this, and fully accept it.
Our concern is that the letter also mentioned that her past payments would be reviewed. This, we assume, would involve repayment of any over-payment made from the commencement of the UK pension.
Two questions then.....firstly, how long does it usually take before we hear the result of the review? Weeks or months?
Secondly, will we be able to negotiate a repayment amount and time-scale?
My wife is obviously very worried about the situation caused by my initial error and I'm keen to put her mind at rest and 'sort' the situation as soon as possible.
