non-refundable policy

Preface: I know what non-refundable means, I was stupid to book non-refundable, never again...

    Hey all.

I'm a little bit pissed as a business trip that I was taking has fell through (dates have changed to sometime in October) and I had booked an extra few days off to go travelling which included an internal flight and a hotel for 3 nights. The flight and hotel came up to €600 so I'm facing being out of pocket for this.

The flight I can get travel credit for so I can use that against a new flight, but the hotel (which was the guts of the €600) won't let me refund or give me credit for the stay. They will allow me to change the dates but only as a gesture of goodwill, but since I have no accurate dates other than sometime in October I can't change the dates.

Is there any way of getting out of this? The hotel was booked with Hotels.com and flight was with Virgin Australia.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Try sell it for a fraction of the purchase price on Donedeal.

Perhaps it's still an allowable expense, even though you didn't go? Write it off. Let Revenue pay.

Hah, I'd rather pay the money than have to deal with the cretins on donedeal.

I have someone looking into it for me, hopefully they'll get back to me soon.

Revenue will just want to see evidence of payment (if anything). You won't need to show them holiday snaps!

even though i'm an employee of a company? I could see how this would work if I was self-employed. I took 3 days holidays and paid €600 out of my own pocket and revenue can cough up?

This site provides a decent chance of offloading a hotel room you can't use

    Absolutely not.

Only allowable if you were travelling 'wholly and exclusively for the purposes of trade or profession'

Genuine question: Is this covered by distance selling regulations? If so can the OP reverse the payment?

The trip is not physical goods so not covered.

Why would the credit card reverse the purchase, when his booking was non refundable, he knew it was non refundable when he booked it & the hotel & hotels.com website can prove he knew? Credit card companies do their own research, before they will agree to reverse a transaction. They won't do it, just because you ask them to.

I simply asked a fúcking question mate.

You'd be very surprised what credit card companies will do. Just because it says it on a website it does not mean that it is impossible.
