If you're thinking about college, you should start thinking about how to finance it. There's a handy website called studentfinances.ie which covers all info on that.

Phone repairs: fixing cracked screens, charging ports, etc. is a good business. You could refurbish second hand phones and sell them. There is good money in all that. You could rent a small shop in a busy part of Iteland and see how you get on?You could always plumb on the side till your business takes off.

Have you researched how much it would cost to go to college in New Zealand or if you'd be eligible for grants? If it's cheaper than in Ireland or might be worth staying out there. What you could also do is talk to a careers advisor who could point you in the right direction.

    Hi there,

I think its never too late to change careers.

If you are mechanical - start a side business fixing phones. There's a huge demand for screen repair for instance. It's no bother to start a website these days with wordpress and drive business.

Best of luck- do what you are passionate about and you will never work a day in your life

The thing is that my family wouldn't understand. They'll just keep nagging me to go plumbing which means I'll be back to square one.

Unless of course you just ignore them or reassure them and just do what you want to do, which shouldn't really be a problem. If it is a problem for you to do that at 30, you have bigger issues than your career choices.

The phone business is a great one can you fix iPad screens etc these little shops are popping up everywhere and they are always mad busy. Sounds like a great little business. I would hold off telling the family as long as possible as they may try and talk you out of it.
