Malaga Airport Scam

    Just to warn fellow travellers.

At Malaga airport there is a guy who claims to have lost his passport and had his money stolen. He is a large plump chap in his mid/late 30's,5'11", rather scruffy and speaks with a Scottish accent. He targets Irish and British tourists who are usually heading home. He plies his trade in the long corridor between the carpark that you would use if you were returning a hire vehicle and the terminal, presumably because there are no police or security there. he pushes an airport trolley with 2 or 3 empty battered suitcases on it looking very forlorn and lost.
How do I know he's a chancer??? Well I have been fortunate enough to travel to Malaga several times over the last 2 years and he has been there every time with the same story.

I'm heading back there on the 11th Sept. so it will be interesting to see if he's there again!

If you lost your passport, why would you be at the airport? You would be out getting another one and you wouldn't get it at the airport.

Can't believe people would actually believe in the story.

I'm with you on that Raptor, but clearly some folk do fall for it, otherwise he'd be long gone.

There's another guy dressed in a suit at Malaga bus station who's been waiting for the bus to Cordoba for at least seven years :-)

I experienced his more refined, English "cousin" the other day on my way through the departures area of Malaga airport and immediately thought of this thread.
He was telling this sob story of how he was waiting for his wife to arrive for the past six hours and he hadn't a scrap of money on him.
Looks like Malaga airport is a real target for this sort of thing.

Not just foreign airports that are subject to this. Recently had a similar experience in Airside Retail Park. Beware of chancers everywhere
