gives you digital stations e.g. 2xm with better sound

I'm wondering do you need to change car aerial for this?

Thanks - tbh I wouldn't notice the difference between FM & DAB in my car.

It gives you some RTE stations that don't exist on FM such as 2XM and Gold, but sound quality isn't any better and arguably is actually worse (uses MPEG-2 encoding). I have DAB on my Nissan Pulsar built-in head unit and it's extremely picky as to whether it actually receives anything especially when the weather is bad. Transmitter power is quite low for DAB in Ireland, as officially I believe it's still test only, but I can see the 3 Rock transmitter from where I live and on a wet rainy day I can't pick up any RTE DAB stations on my driveway even.

Unlessyour car stereo has a line in and you have a station with a high bit rate and you are in a good signal area then you won't get better sound.

if you don't have line in then it's an FM transmitter so can't possibly give better quality. http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=181589
So the signal broadcast by the DAB adaptor to my car VHF radio proved to be not quite good enough quality. When listening to a voice programme (like the cricket commentary on R5Live Extra) there is a slight background whine. Very low volume but quite noticeable in the short gaps when no-one is talking. Not really noticeable when listening to a music channel.

Also, and this should be the show stopper , I can't see any mention of DAB+

DAB has limited availability in Ireland.
