So with one grown up kid my wife is expecting another in early november. Ill be keeping my DC5 and mx-5 and the trusty passat estate as the family runaround.

My wife however needs something with a bit of space and needs to sell her convertible mini. She needs something with height because of her bad back and because well use this as the family car, it'll need a boot for the dog, buggy and any family gear.

So far we have narrowed it down the following:

2006-2009 Toyota Rav4 (petrol or diesel)
2007-2009 Honda CRV (petrol pre 2008 due to tax)
    2008 Nissan Qashqai

Mileage wont be massive but a diesel is a bonus for resale. Budget is 7k because i cant be arsed losing my shirt on a newer car.

Leanign towards the CRV, any thoughts?

Out of the 3 I would go with the 2007 onwards CRV, try to look for the high spec model with leather, sat nav and xenon lights.

I'd go with the crv. I drove one for 6 years with no problems. Lovely car.

Always been a honda man myself with 2 x CRX, DC2 and now a DC5 for the last 8 years.

Might need to go to the UK looking at the tat online on donedeal. Anybody any recommendations on what to look out for?

How was the 2.2 diesel unit from honda like reliability wise?

Very good. The exhaust manifold sometimes cracks, but it's a solid engine.
