Have a problem with dairy Cows reversing into cubicles and lying down. Makes a huge mess and bad for hygiene.
Large enough cubicles 4 per bay not much fall as father was against it. Is the fall the problem.
Don't often see cows lying down hill?

Are they long enough? Look at the cows getting up in the field they lunge forward to get up. If not enough length they may find it difficult to stand. Also if cubicles are too wide smaller cows may actually turn around and face out. You are correct re the fall in the cubicle also I'd say. Teagasc have measurements for cubicle size on their site somewhere

Have you the cows in already, surely not?

Yes long enough. I will get into traffic for measurements.
Unfortunately the cows at in and out alot due to steep land and worst weather I remember. Warm but wet and not enough dry to help.

In old cubicle house cows used to reverse onto cubicles. They were too short. Built new shed with longer bed, no issues now. Cubicles against a wall are 7'6 long and cubicle facing each other with no wall in the middle 7 ft. Maidens will sometimes twist around in them because they are small enough.

BTW if it was me and I had to house stock in August I'd be planting it ta fook!!

Out today. Need to get a better pad system for walking as they spend 3 days crossing the same entrance. It is normally hard ground but just weather has been terrible.

If the cubicles aren't high enough off the slats that will allow the cows to reverse in too

I'll get all measurements and fall today later on and post them up to see if anyone spots any problems.

Is it 7' from back of step to wall?

Yes from back step to a wall.

Was contemplating putting feed or something in front of them to get them turned.

Maybe a flat screen TV for every cubicle

Would a breast bar / corri pipe be the answer for this?

    4' seems wide usually 3'6" I'm sure.

I was fairly p'd off having to keep the cows in for 5 months last winter, my troubles were small.

Yea, too short and too wide.
You'd want at least 7ft 6 length and 3ft 9 is the standard width.
I've 4 cubicle spaces that the cows back into, they're 4ft due to a pillar being where the cubicle should be fixed, heart ache.
On the length, I think the measurements are 7ft 6 if facing another cow space and 8ft if facing a wall.

Mostly British Frisian cows so not huge.
    Might try the brisket board.
Thanks ever for all the input

Is 6" Corrie OK for this?

4*3 timber would do the trick as brisket board, cheaper and easier to install
