Anyone know where to get cheap pine nuts?

I made pesto yesterday but it worked out quite expensive using a small bag of pine nuts from Supervalu.

    Use Brazil nuts or cashews.
Slightly different but just as nice.

Super-valu is often quite dear for that kind of food.
You might get cheaper in a health store, or the likes of Lidl, etc.

Elizabeth David suggests using walnuts as an alternative to pignoli - I've tried this: it was good. Not the same, but still tasty.

Don't go for the cheap ones, lots of inedible ones come in to be sold cheap and give people pine mouth. You don't want pine mouth.

You could try the cash and carry.
Asian grocery shops generally do nuts quite cheap.

pine nuts are expensive to harvest as process is very labour intensive.

Thanks all. It sounds like an alternative nut is the way to go. I'm a big fan of walnuts so might try toasting some walnuts and using those.
