While in company tonight a discussion arose over the following sentance, "They listened in class and learned ".
Some said it was grammatically incorrect while others said it was correct!
Can anyone clarify it for me please?

It wasn't any class from my old school anyway cos nobody ever listened and we certainly never learned much.
