Lost Baggage advice

    Hi all,

I returned home today after a fairly exhausting 30 hour trip to find that my checked bag has been lost en route. The itinerary was:

Koh Samui - Singapore (Bangkok Airways)
Singapore - London Heathrow (British Airways)
    Heathrow - Dublin (Aer Lingus)

I went through the lost baggage process in Dublin Airport with the people at the Aer Lingus desk who told me that it was likely that the bag would be found and delivered by tomorrow. They gave me a reference number to check the status online. Since then it has been the same status: TRACING CONTINUES. PLEASE CHECK BACK LATER

I know it has only been a few hours so I'm trying not to get too worked up over it but I have some concerns all the same. Should Aer Lingus be the operator doing the search? What if the bag was lost at Singapore, or worse, never made it onto the plane in Samui? Is there anything I could be doing on my end to try to expedite the search? I've never had a bag lost before so this is all a bit new to me

European law has got you covered.
    Google it.

There is nothing more you can do to expedite the process. The bag will show up when it shows up. Sorry, if that sounds harsh, but that's the way it is. Yes, Aer Lingus should be handling this, on your behalf. If there is no sign of it back at Heathrow, they'll extend the search back to Thailand, in partnership with the two other airlines. You can hardly file 3 separate claims with 3 separate airlines for the one bag.

Usually a lost bag just never made a connection flight, it's happened to me a few times.

Should turn up within 24/48 hours as they'll put it on the next available flight which sounds like a daily route. If it goes past the 21 days then they are liable to reimburse you.

And no unfortunately there is nothing you can do on your end.

Any sign of it yet, OP?

Sorry forgot to update. Thanks everyone for the feedback, the bag arrived two days later. Missed one of the connecting flights and was eventually located. All sorted thankfully
