Analogue cable + antenna + diplexer: interference

Hi all,

Am using an LG smart tv with built in tuner, I receive UPC's analogue service via cable (~17 channels) and want to combine with saorview DTV on the one line in. Am using a diplexer that was recommended. After autotuning, the antenna channels come in crystal clear, but the analogue channels via UPC's cable experience fairly severe interference - in fact only a few of them are found in the first place. Does anyone have any ideas on how to overcome this?

Obviously interfering signals are being picked up by the aerial. You need a better diplexer/filter. But if the Saorview muxes are on the same frequency as UPC there is nothing you can do to combine them on one cable.

I suspect what you are trying to do is against UPCs (Virgin Media) T & Cs anyway as your aerial could be radiating UPC signals which could cause interference to essential services outside the TV bands.

I currently have this setup and it's working perfectly for me.
Can you post a picture of the diplexer you are using?

That looks like your problem, one leg on that splitter/combiner only accepts satellite IF frequencies above 950 MHz from an LNB on a sat dish.

A combiner that covers the range 174 - 862 Mhz on both legs will be required.

Input 1 covers the cable range, input 2 for saorview from Kippure.

This is an interim fix until the Kippure frequencies are moved down the band in the coming years, analogue cable may be gone by that time too.

And perhaps that seller should warn (under DISADVANTAGES) that Sat-terrestrial diplexer is incompatible with Sky Q (some people might have ideas of using one of a pair of satellite cables to diplex terrestrial, it won't work with Sky Q)

Got the suggested diplexer (good, fast service from those guys) and all set up! Many thanks for the replies, great knowledge on here. Dan.
