I am off with another 4 people on a trip to Krakow from a Thurs - Sunday in Sept.

Anyway, our flights arrive into Krakow at 2045 local time on the Thurs evening, and we depart Poland at 1140 on the Sunday.

Does anyone have any recommendations ref a taxi firm to book (I am completely unfamiliar with Krakow)

We are staying in a Hotel literally on the Main Square, and I can see from maps that its approx a 6 min walk from the train station. The problem I have with gettin a train, is that it would make it very tight to make a meeting/function I have to atttend that evening, plus not knowing the area particulary well.

    Regards.

Cars including taxis are very restricted in terms of access to the square. They may be able to get you to a side street.
This company are very reliable. I have used them for years.

    Thanks spurious.

I know you helped me in a previous thread, regarding Poland. So big thank you, once again.

I have used the above company both times I was in Kraków and could not fault them at all...very easy to deal with and in fact used them through out our trip...great value to all the sites and give you a bit of a history lesson as well.
We traveled with two other couples and for the six of us it worked out a lot cheaper than the organised tours ...
As mentioned above they drop you off on a side street about 200 yards off the main square...very easy to find hotels from there and driver will tell you where the hotel is...

Has me a bit confused. :o

I'm just after booking a transfer, (I think) but it asks you very last question to enter "meeting place" (though I've already selected krakow airport)

I'm hoping they're not sending a car to the hotel, when I'm in the airport

Any recommendations on what to do whilst there?

The nature of my trip will be a mix of business and pleasure. The business end of things should be taken care off by lunch time Fri (12pm) or so, but from then in its purely pleasure.

I am thinking Auschwitz for a tour, and getting rather familiar with the local beer (obviously):)

As for the booking and the last question I just put in arrivals and flight number ....and driver was there waiting for me...
As for what to definitely Auschwitz and give yourself a bit of time to see it all...driver will wait and bring you to both camps..
Salt mines Are good ....shindlers factory...old town ....loads to do and see that's why I had to return a second time ...oh and all the cool underground bars...
I would leave Auschwitz till last as it does have a negative impact and is fairly heavy going...we went on first day and it's was on my mind for the rest of the weekend....but it's one thing you must see...

Agree with the timing of an Auschwitz visit. Krakow has some cool jazz venues which are definitely worth a visit if that's your thing. In fact Poland in general has a great love affair with jazz.

The driver will be just outside the gate that arriving passengers come through and he will have a sign with your name on it. He usually asks in advance for your flight number, in case it's delayed.

The trip from the airport into close to your hotel should take under 30 minutes.

Thanks guys, really looking forward to this trip.

I always enjoy visiting Poland , although this is my first time visiting Krakow and first time visiting the country when it isn't actually "winter" time.

Forgot about the jazz clubs, one of our best nights was spent in a cellar jazz bar ...I was never into jazz but that was a great night...not forgetting the wodka bars keeping you warm in the cold weather...

September is a lovely time to visit.

Other things to consider doing are trips into the mountains. We had a great day out doing 'Dunajec river rafting' - made all the more enjoyable as we had visions of white water rafting, New Zealand style, when in fact it's more drifting down the river on a flat bottomed punt with a bloke singing folk songs. Still, we enjoyed it. We also got to visit Niedzica Castle on the same tour.

If you are into high end dining, there is extraordinary value to be had in tasting menus in some restaurants and hotels, such as these below.

    Amarylis
    Hotel Copernicus

The prices are mad by Krakow standards, where you can easily find two courses plus a drink for well under 15 euro, but as a once-off treat, it's lovely, for prices that are equally crazy compared to what similar in Dublin would cost.

For changing money, either use bank machines, or 'Kantor' offices. The one I have found usually has best value is the one called Grosz at Sławkowska 4, the street at the 'northwest' corner of the Rynek/Main square. They always seem to have the best rates. Generally speaking, there's not a massive difference in the exchange rates of the various Kantors, but that one usually has the best ones.

Any questions, ask your driver. They are well used to answering tourist's questions.
