Sub 40 mins 10k

    Did my second 10k yesterday. 42 mins 20 seconds. 56 year old male running on and off over the years. Think I am fairly fit for my age. But is a big improvement needed to break 40mins?

    That's about a 5-6% improvement. In a well-trained athlete that would be a huge leap but for someone "fairly fit" who is "running on and off" it should be possible, depending on how hard (and smart) you are prepared to work. Best way is to join a local running club.

    kinda depends what amount/quality of training got you to 42 mins 20 seconds and whether you think you can train more/smarter than you have been. I find Hal Higdon's 8 week plans good.
