Isn't he the most boring, lifeless analyst ever? He is also extremely negative, not to mention when the he is in shot, it would cost him nothing to smile.

I am sure he is a lovely man on a personal level, but he is not for tv. Cop on RTE and get rid of him.

I like him but they go to him at the most inappropriate times when play is going on. He does give some fairly interesting stats.

Every piece of analysis boils down to "short puck outs good, long puck outs bad"

I find his analysis very good. Maybe you should stick to sky sports if you want smiley personalities ....

He's fairly dull alright. He makes Dessie Dolan look animated. Whatever stats he offers up, could easily be flashed up on screen during the game, or fed into the ear of the commentator. I see no reason at all to feature him as often as they do. There is some merit in having a side line reporter, but have it be someone who played the game fairly recently & knows the two teams and players involved. Mossy Quinn does that for Newstalk and he's very good.

As a reporter only imo. The sidelines are the worst vantage point to provide accurate analysis of games, viewpoint is very low and in many cases too close to the action.

He gives off a slight headmaster vibe at times.

Having said that, he has done it all both as a player and manager so I would respect his opinion more than most... John Mullane being a case in point.

It is strange that he talks about puck outs etc from there. Be better if he could tell us what he hears from the benches about potential changes, injuries etc.

He probably wouldn't be able to repeat what comes from the benches.

Why not? The newstalk sideline reporter (and rte previously) have often reported that a certain change was being considered or that a certain player was asked to warm up. I wasn't suggesting a word for word account of what's happening!

I doubt if the viewers/listeners at home, needs to hear a word for word account of Davy Fitz calling the linesman a jumped up little h**r of motherf*****g bo*****s, who couldn't f*****g see a f*****g foul if it was served up to him on a f*****g platter. We can figure that one out for ourselves.

But some insider deets on what instructions are being roared at the players from the sideline, what positional switches are being considered, what players are warming up, who the physios and medics are worried about etc etc wouldn't go amiss. That's the kind of thing, we can't figure out for ourselves at home.

Its strange. I prefer DOG approach. Knows his stuff.
Would have been a great long term manager a la Cody for Cork only with the politics in Cork GAA.

or he seen that his gameplan had a very limited lifespan and he bailed before he was found out

Only the patently naive would think that an inter county management team is going to part with that kind of information. I can only imagine DOG or some other eejit sidling up to Davy with those kind of questions. H**r of motherf*****g bo*****s would be the least of what he'd get.
