Best Broadband Service

I have been with Vodafone for 3 years on simply broadband. Entering my 4th year I upgraded to Fibre for €40 p/m. Was told by different agents that my line could handle 70mbs and I would get between 60 - 70mbs once installed...Happy Days!!

Had it installed 2+ weeks ago. Eir engineer was out installed new socket and modem. He agreed that my speeds would be around the 66mb mark as that what others in my area were getting. Speed test was coming in at 18mb so he told me to ring and get them to up it. After 8 phone calls, no joy....

So, up to today I am getting speeds of between 1mb and 14mb. Service is constantly dropping. I have been on to vodafone for the last 2 weeks. Customer service is the pits and I am still waiting for a reply from them.

I rang Eir yesterday to get info on their price plans and they said my speeds should be better than this. I am considering signing up with them as Vodafone have no interest in rectifying the fault.

I have never had broadband with Eir so can anyone shed some light on their service? Surely it's better than Vodafone?

If your problem is wireless it's your own concern and not the fault of the provider, it could be local interference. Plug a laptop into the modem using Ethernet and test again. Login to your modem and find the line stats and post them here, this will show what speed your line is syncing at

My problem isn't wireless as I have tested using Ethernet cable. Vodafone admitted fault with line and claimed it to be cleared, it isn't. As for local interference, my neighbours are getting over 60mb speeds. I am only 200 metres from the cabinet and Vodafone confirmed I would receive same before upgrade. Eir claim it will handle up to 70mb and that I'd get around the 60mb mark.

My line stats are: down stream, 18431 kbit/s, upstream 5118 kbit/s
Engineer who installed it said Vodafone would up it after 1 hour. When I rang, I was told it would be upped but would take up to 15 days. After 15 days, I'm told it can't be upped and that I'm stuck with same speeds I've always had.

So my issue is with Vodafone. My question is, are Eir going to pull the same stunts considering my line is only 18mb or will they install a new line and get me Fibre speeds as promised?

What is your attainables up and down and your attenuation figure from your line stats. This will give the full story about your line quality and length

That tells us that your modem reckons the line is about 1600m long ... not 200m, so likely there is still a fault.

Just so we can confirm what open eir think your line is capable of, pop your number into this and read us back the results.

Remove the front of the master socket and plug your modem direct into the socket that you find there and test again. Post stats

Contact Vodafone, they'll test and open a fault with Eir if there's a problem.

I have done, they agreed that there was a fault and I received a text saying they cleared the fault. I have been on the phone for hours to them and I'm getting nowhere....

You will need to include Comreg in your emails. You won't get Eir to take an order while your line is with Vodafone. You need to get Vodafone to get Eir to fix the fault
