Eir Sport Query

    Hi all,

I have a UK Sky card with my box. BT Sports etc are on the listings, however, Eir Sport 1 & 2 are not. How do I add Eir Sport 1 and 2 to the listings before I enter the code on the eir website so they then unlock for me since I have eir broadband.

You need an Irish viewing card. Eir wll be able to provide you with one.

Is it possible to add EiR Sports 1 & 2 manually so they become listed and then can be unlocked once I quote the number?

AFAIK no. If they're added manually they come under 'other channels' and do not appear on EPG. I maybe wrong but with a UK card they will probably be locked even under other channels (just like TV3/UTV Ireland/RTE1HD are in NI) unable to be unlocked. As stated above you need an ROI card.

You must use an Irish viewing card for Eir to turn on the channels.

Ok just to update lads. I got a spare Irish card from a friend.

Put it into my sky box and re boot the system.
Now here's the part I am lost with. I get BBC but I don't get C4 etc or most of the fta channels in the listed channels thread here. Now to throw a another spanner in the mix when I go to "other channels" they are there however when I add more channels they will store in other channels but not in the EPG, after that I wanted to add more and when I did my box said "your sky+ hd box isn't getting a signal* ..

    This keeps happening where,
box goes on - BBC & few others channels appear - other channels - add channels - channels add & store - go to add a second time - Your skybox isn't getting a signal.

    * Yet when I plug out the box and plug it back in it seems to connect fine and the same channels appear.

Apologies if this doesn't make sense, I spent hours at this and I'm none the wiser. Paid a guy 50 quid who was "out of this game a while"to have a look and so he's not of help anymore and could only get it to a stage of a connection.

Cant help you with the rest of your query but what I can tell you is that anything you store in "other channels" will not appear on the EPG.

Putting an Irish sub card into Sky boxes less than 3 or 4 years old will not bring up any of the FTA channels such as ITV, Channel 5 etc. You need a UK card for those.

Seems like your Sky box is still bringing up the Irish EPG. I assume you are still seeing RTE1 on 101?

You will need to get that Irish card paired to the box and I think you have to contact Eir to get that done providing of course that you are an Eir BB customer.

    Just to update,

Currently using a UK viewing card in the box. Got an Irish card however it isn't paired with the box (so the message tells me) so do I need to get the card paired with the box before this will work? The box was originally an Irish box, so as I said I am just using the UK card atm to avail of all the fta channels is the EPG.

What I want to do is have the Irish card in the box with all the FTA channels as well as the EiR Sports pack. I actually quoted the card number online with EiR so it already assume I'm watching the channels through my box but that is not the case since I get the "wrong card from your box" message. Btw it's the same with the UK card however with the UK card the channels work and appear in the EPG but I need to use the Irish card to avail of EiR Sport 1&2.

I imagine in order for the FTa channels to appear in the EPG and work and for the Eir Sport channesl to show on my Tv the card must be paired with the box is this correct?

What shall I do from here?

*To add Muffler I really appriciate your input on this but just to clarify if I can get the Irish card paired by EiR will this enable me to watch all the FTA channels on the box in the EPG rather than 'other channels" as well as watching the EiR Sports pack of channels. As I said I did already quote to card number online to EiR so they already assume I'm using the service however I am not so it seems I am only a pairing away from getting all of the above to click?

Once you get the Irish card (and it must be an Irish card to get Eir sports) paired to the box you wont get as many FTA channels as you were getting with the UK card. Most likely the box will revert to the Irish EPG which wont give you ITV, Ch. 5, Olympic red button channels etc.

Have the Irish card got but do I need to pair it to the box? Since the message I get is "this is the wrong card for your box message"

yes ring eir/setanta and give them card number, they then send activate signal

    Got everything sorted. Almost!

Manage to get my EiR Sport account fixed so can now use the app. Rang the number and they were very helpful. Sent a signal to the box and boom. It's worked! However I only got BT sport 1 2 & 3 and didn't get EiR Sports 1 & 2 along with the HD channels. The woman in the phone said there could be something wrong with either the box or the disk however she wasn't able to pinpoint as to why I could only pick up some channels and not all as she said they are all on the same code.

What do I do now to try and fix it? On the channels I don't receive above which I should be getting the message is "no sattlitte signal found" yet the other channels and BBC work fine. Would a new dish & cables be a fix?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46,548 ✭✭✭✭muffler

First thing to do is reboot the box. If that doesn't work then I wouldn't know what else to try but I'm sure other posters here will come up with a suggestion or two.

heres what you need to do but answer this first.

1, Did the person on phone ask you for box serial number and version?

    2. Can you say its a sky hd box and can you say model, go to services, details, read off model number, thats latest software, then manufactur.

    3. while in services you can check signal level as well.

    report back

    1. Nope. Only number I was asked to give was my viewing card number to make sure it match her records to re send the signal.

She couldn't understand though why I was not picking up the rest of the sports pack and it's HD channels as she said they were all on the same code or something like that.
So I only have BT Sport 1,2&3 in SD. She ended by saying I would have to contact my pay Tv provider (which I don't have like many who only want FTA + Eir Sports Pack)

    2. Okay,

    It's a Sky+ HD Box,
    Model number - R006.058.60.00P
    Version number - 4f3102
    Manufacturer - Sky

    3. Signal strength - Over 50%
    Signal Quality - Around 75%

*If it helps be more descriptive I've only one cable going into the box (dish 1) So no dish 2 cable that's left to one side along with the recording function and it's set to single feed mode.

Here you go, its probably an amstrad drx 890, its usually on the underneath of box. The software in box is ancient so you have to perform a forced software update and then it will be like new.

    1. Look here

    https://skyepginfo.co.uk/HowToGuides/Skybox-Update.php

    2. Once complete check version here

    https://skyepginfo.co.uk/Firmware/SkyPlusHD.php

If its not the very latest dont worry that will arrive automatically in time.

    3. check card on channels you are not getting, NB you wont get HD.

    4. Ring eir again and state you want card PAIRED to box, they then have to ask you for details, version number and serial no, and they need the whole serial no. especially character at end, that's alphabetical, ie A, B, C, so O is not ZERO.

    5. Have box on BT sport HD1 when you ring.

NB You cant get HD unless box is paired, its a given for obvious reasons. If you get a dodgy person be persuasive or ask for an EXPERT.

By the way the new software interface is AWFUL as you will find so press services and then across to settings.

    good luck.

ps signal is good enough for eir. You can actually check strength on eir, just select that channel and then do services, settings, signal, mine is 50% and 90. Signal will vary from channel to channel. Check BBC 2 NI to see what I mean.

PPS I am on single feed mode as well!!

Ok just to update before I make the call.

Updated the software and that went through fine. I believe I've the most recent version since July 20th.

Checked the channels. They remain the same.

Still only have BT Sport 1, 2, 3

    Don't have - EiR Sports 1 , 2, BT Sport/ESPN & each HD version too.

Checked the signal on BBC which I have and its good yet when I go to Eir Sports 1 I get told ive no signal which I can't understand.

I am making the call now anyway and I'll have BT Sport 1 on in the background. I'll update more after. Cheers.

BT SPORT1 HD and take card out and put back in again can work, they may ask you to do that.

Ok. Rang them and they paired the card to the box which resulted in unlocking the HD versions of BT sport 1,2&3 as well as BtSport/ESPN HD whcih I didn't have before. So a big improvement was made since I could not get By/ESPN or Any BT HD channels before :)

Now what I couldn't get was EiR Sports 1&2 play their HD channels.

So on EiR Sports the code I get is (25) & the message is no sattlitte signal. The guy on the phone said to unplug the power and wait five mins and then turn on and it should work but no joy. He did say if that didn't work I'd have to contact the sky guys.

    So as of now.

    BT Sport's 1 - Working
    BT Sport's 2 - Working
    BT Sport's 3 - Working
    BT Sport's/ESPN - Working
All BT Sport's HD channels - Working

Eir Sports 1 - No SAT Signal (25)
Eir Sports 2 - No SAT Signal (25)
Both EiR Sports Channels - No SAT Signal (25)

Now that is a bit of a bummer. Can you actually reach the dish? one of the eir ones is HD as well as SD, did you try all 3?

and check the sat cable going into box make sure its a snug fit and no piece of the shield wire is touching inner core. It easy to miss.

Simple question and sorry if I sound a bit ignorant and even stupid in asking this - Does Set Top Box Eir Sport provide to receive their channels only work via an internet connection? From what I can pick up on their website only way to watch Eir Sport is either via Sky system or through their STB. Is this correct? If this is correct then I presume only way to watch Eir sport in NI (where I live) is via Sky. Is this right?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,678 ✭✭✭swoofer

    yes with an irish card.

When you say Irish card I presume you mean that my Sky NI card will work when I subscribe? I rang Premier Sports and the customer adviser was unsure about receiving Eir Sports 1 but eventually told me I could receive Premier and Eir Sports 1 here in NI. I also contacted Eir Sports directly via web chat and their advisor informed me that the only way I could receive Eir Sports in NI was if I was an Eir broadband customer! This is impossible of course as no-one north of the border can subscribe to Eir broadband. He never mentioned Sky system at all. You can see why I'm a bit confused.

No Sky NI is in fact sky UK ie the epg will be BBC1 etc. An irish card will give the epg RTE1 etc

So you need an irish sky card to get eir sport. To join online as they ask for a telephone no. and that's a republic no. so you would need an irish mobile no. If you ring them and quote your sky card no. they will know its a uk number.

The way round is get an irish card, you can get one from eir/setanta but you would need an irish address or look on sale places. Then go online and join with irish mobile no. then if it does not work ring them to get signal sent. But if you want HD you will need two boxes or need a full irish sub card for sky sports but you will have irish epg.

Premier sports is for abroad and sometimes it has eir sport1 progs as well.

    Hope this is clear!!

I don't think your suggestion will work. People have to be Eir BB customers and as Digifriendly is in NI. then that's the end of that Id think.

It would be the same issue for any of us here in Ireland looking to sign up with BT in the UK for broadband and then avail of free sports channels. It aint going to work.

Ah right!. I thought it was the free sub he was after. Im not even sure how he will fair out by subscribing for the year or paying monthly. When Setanta were at the helm I think it was a different ball game. Im not sure that Eir will allow anyone outside of ROI avail of the channels but then again if there's money being paid, well that could sway things :)

Premier sports have told me I can subscribe via Sky and I already have Eir Sports 1 on my Sky NI epg. BTW I'm not trying to circumvent any regulations just enquiring as to whether I can legally subscribe to Eir Sports along with Premier sports in NI. My understanding is that once Eir Sports superceded Setanta NI viewers could receive Eir Sports 1 as part of Premier Sports subscription.

My understanding is that certainly, former Setanta NI customers who were moved to Premier Sports in April do continue to recieve Eir Sport 1, with appropriate blocking of certain live football.

Now whether the same applies to new subscribers to Premier Sports in NI, I'm not sure.

Ok. Basically turned off the box and turned it back on again once more to find that I had EiR Sports 1 & 2 working! Eir Sports 2 HD works but it buffers or scrambles while it on. As part of the unlock I was told you get Motor's TV too which I have but like EiR Sports 2 HD it scrambles a bit.
Going in the right direction anyway swoofer , really appriciate all your help during this process. The Sat is accessible if it might help clear the two problem channels but I am happy with EiR Sports in SD as I thought they'd never work. Lol

    * Just to update. Eir Sport 1, 2 & 2 HD have reverted back no satellite signal. "Would moving the direction of the dish help things?"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 818 ✭✭✭ronanc1000

Just to update. All channels continue to work bar Eir Sport 1, 2 & 2HD. I read somewhere that some channels are picked up differently in relation to where the Sat it put be it horizontally or vertically. Would moving the dish further left it right make things better? Obviously I don't want to move it and lose all the channels so your advice on this is is appreciated guys. I can take pics of required.

thats interesting as eir 1 is horizontal, and eir 2 hd is V. Are there trees near dish? and can you access it easy? but first try this, try to add the channels in add channels, go to services, options, add channels and the enter the below, use remote to add frequency and then for other values use arrows, then press yellow, if it comes back no sat signal we can then try another tweak,

    11171 H DVB-S QPSK 22000 5/6 = eir sport 1 and 2

    11225.00 V DVB-S2 8PSK 23000 2/3 = eir2 hd

    ps have you an iphone

Ok, did those steps and got the "no sat signal" message. I can access it if required. No tress surround it. I have not gone near it yet. No, I don't have an iphone.

You need to re-align dish BUT you have to be carefull, ie safe if its up high and dont move it in such a way you loose all channels and cant get them back. In your case you may need 2 people, one to watch screen, other to move dish. NB its takes about 10 secs for the signal to hit dish and then down cable to sat move dish minutely and wait. The dish can be moved either left or right so before you start mark the current position so you can go back.

To loosen dish use a spanner and loosen all 4 nuts, not a lot as you dont want dish too easy to turn. To get it spot on count the threads that are visible and then when you tighten up again you wont overdo it or dish may be loose before you start.

So put box on eir sport and tv on with volume loud, move dish, wait and listen, when you get sound you have signal, now check signal level using meter in box.

    good luck
