New Tags (Herd Numbers)

The BTE & IE are going to be replaced!

Any comment on the new tags? Makes sense to have electronically readable tags in long run, but it's the first I have heard about it. Was I under a rock?

.....under the new number system just three numbers have been reserved for cattle.

Not sure how that's going to work, if it's true. Sounds too stupid to be entirely correct.

A lot of software will need updating to cope with the new format.

Saw something about this a few weeks ago, apparently some of the systems in other countries have no letters in them, and the software especially on phones cannot handle the letters in our tags.
So we will have to work with even longer numbers to accommodate them, will this lead to smaller printing on the tags, making them harder to read?
