Short term montly Car in USA

Hey guys wondering if anybody can help me.
Me and a mate have to head over to the US for 6 months for work.

We are going to be in the cincinnati ohio/northern kentucky area. I have been there before so i know what public transport is like in america (Non-existent)

So i am wondering what would be the best option for getting a car. Some things like hertz would be far too expensive. Was looking at service like turo.com as we might not need a car all the time.

Would there be any other options like leasing or would we even be able to purchase a old wreck drive it for 6 months and sell it on ?.

    Any help appreciated.

I would avoid the buying-and-selling-a-beater option. You have to deal with registration, insurance, and the hassle of selling the car, plus fixing anything that goes wrong.

Depending on the credit check requirements, your best bet may be to take over a lease for six months. See companies like leasetrader. There are cars going for just over $200/month here - http://www.leasetrader.com/lease-in/Months-From.0_Months-To.9_S.Payment

    Another leasing company - http://www.swapalease.com/short-term-car-leasing.aspx

The rental companies also have long-term rentals, but, as you say, they can be expensive. Worth a look, though. You might even find a small local rental company that will make a deal with you.

    Thanks for the reply

So would be hard to get a lease then as a foreign citizen? i mean as long as I can provide an american address and maybe a bank statement and a letter from work that would work. Been to the US a few times but never to live, and of course heard they want a credit check for everything etc.

Probably no one here can answer those questions. Call them.

I highly doubt you will be able to get a lease. You'd need a credit history in the U.S.

Registering a car and getting insurance would be a pain in the arse without a U.S. license.

Have you looked into car sharing services like zipcar? I'm not sure if they are available in the area you'll be in but you pay a monthly membership and can use the cars whenever you need them

You'd definitely have to call them and see if you can get a lease. We have plenty of Indian contractors at work who came to the US and got a car right away, so it is possible, but I have no idea who will work with you and who will say no.

Zipcar is definitely a good option. I forgot about them. http://www.zipcar.com/check-rates/cincinnati

There's even Uber, if you want someone else to do the driving. https://www.uber.com/cities/cincinnati/

Fair enough some good answers, Zip car looks like a good option for maybe an hour or two of driving , but for any more then that its not cheap at $69-$77 per day.

Yea i used Uber and lyft alot last time i was there, and its cheap enough so i might end up doing that for the first few weeks while i get settled and look at my options.

As it stands my number 1 option seems to be turo.com, never used it
but these car sharing service seem a new thing.
and have cars from $18-40 a day with discounts if i take it for a month or two.

seems like the best option i am going to get.
