Using Eircom F1000 or Vodafone HG658c router?

I just changed from Eir E-Fibre over to VF and they send out a new modem, a HG658c. Works grand most of the time but I occassionally see some dropped packets. No issues for general usage but plays havoc on online gaming.

So I was wondering if anyone has configured their F1000 to work on VF? And would it be a better device? If so, what settings need to change, as the F1000 no longer connects. I also switched to using VoIP for the phone service so suspect I need settings for that also. Anyone tried this already?

    F2000(HG659b) > F1000 (Zyxel Zxxxxx) > HG658c

Vodafones modem is the weakest of the lot, really they should only be sending it to ADSL customers at this stage. F1000 is a good unit but its let down by slightly lacklustre wifi.

You can extract your credentials from the Vodafone using Opera/Chrome to live edit the page. Theres a thread somewhere here how to do it you search. Their use of VOIP extensively is new so you'll have to find those SIP credentials too but I havent seen that posted yet (should be a similar fashion hopefully).

NB: Check your line profile wasnt raised when they moved you, changing provider sets it to 100% but Eir may have had you turned down. Eg. line good for 84Mb, you were set to 80Mb with Eir but vodafone have set you to the 90Mb line max and now its unstable.

    Thanks for that Ed E

Have been thru the tech suport mill already, lowered the speed, eir engineer tested the line, etc. All good. From my ping tests I suspect it's an issue downstream in the VF network but swapping out the router would at least eliminate everything on my side.

Not sure what you mean by using Chrome or Opera to get settings...the VF router seems to have completely different parameters that the eir box. You got a link handy?
