Anybody no anybody in Ireland specialising in these. I have a few questions and also mostly looking for how hard it is to find an engine wiring loom and manual gearbox from one and what price. Also can the immobilisers and safety features that are involved in a everyday car be removed from the engine and made run reliably. And finally are they a genuine 400 brake or is it just Bmw speak trying to sell the car.

M5 is an M5 and what it says on the tin. Google away. M sport is what a lot think is M5 but it's just standard e39 with sporting trim.

You'll want the computers plus they are needed and they don't make it less reliable.

I've no interest in the m sport have had enough of them over the years. Basically I want the m5 v8 engine for a transplant in about a years time. I want to know can they be run with just an engine Ecu and minimal wiring. Ie injector loom coil pack loom timing loom all shortened and just using what's needed or do they run a canbus system making it difficult to shorten the looms.

    Why the BMW engine?

Have you considered the Lexus LS 4001 UZ-FE V8?

It's easier to source and there's plenty of aftermarket looms for it. At this stage, there's plenty of gearboxes that have been made with with it.

A few turbos and you'll have the bhp well over 400. There's also supercharger options

Canbus system all the modules talk to each other. Steering sensor, DCS, wheel speed sensors, abs, traction, body, transmission snd engine module all constantly communicating.

You might have to look into custom ecu and harness for engine and dump all the BMW modules. Not a cheap easy option.

But if your fitting m5 engine in standard car a lot of the modules are the same.

its also not as powerful an option. If I wanted to go the route of turbos I'd keep my own engine and built it and turbo charge it. 3.5 v6. Reason I don't want to do this is I'd need a gearbox to match then which limits me going to a dog box for reliability. Also turbo or supercharge is less reliable than an Na. More moving parts more things to go wrong.

It would be custom Ecu same as in it atm. There is some sort of American Honda Ecu the drive by wire system is got rid of and a throttle body fitted and most of the sensors done away with.

Try Bloomfield motors, they service my e39 and are great. I don't think many on here have m5, although maybe 1 or 2 have.

Talk to Stone Motorsport if you're serious about swapping an S62 into something.

The link posted from BMW forum shows a M5 engine in a old E30. Using a reprogrammed M5 ECU. I didn't know that could be done so anything is possible. E30 modules I wouldn't think would be communicating with M5 engine module as one is canbus the other isn't and they use different protocols.

I'm guessing but it must be possible to programed the M5 engine module to be stand alone. I have no idea how or who could do this.

But if that is possible and it must be then there is your answer. M5 engine and reprogrammed M5 engine module.

What car are you seeking to transplant it into ?

You should talk to Tomas Narusa at Perfect Car in Dundalk. They are BMW specialists and I seem to remember that they did a few engine transplants along the lines of what you are looking to do.

    Stone Motorsport have done a V10 M5 into an E30 M3.
Can't remember but I think it's on a stand alone ECU.
Good place/company to start with anyway.
