PS3 Noob questions

    I'm kind of excited by this: if I pick up a slim or super slim (not sure which is better) PS3 can I upgrade the HDD? I have a 2TB 2.5" drive lying idle. Mainly I'd like to do this in order to purchase games from the PS Store and download them to the HDD. I believe it's impossible to dump the disc based games to the HDD.

    I have a 360 that is RGH'd with the 2TB drive but the fans are so fecking loud and also I'd really like to play online.

    The PS would hopefully overcome these hurdles. It would be legal as well. Hopefully the best games would be fairly cheap on the PS Store now.

    I would be very grateful for any feedback.

    One of the slim models needs an extra bracket though, I think the 4Gig version.
    Also ensure you have a USB drive and the proper update file from Sony before starting. Loads of guides about the place quite straightforward but without the update file you won't get anywhere.

    Can a PS3 slim take a 2TB drive internally? I've read a few google hits saying 1TB is the max.

    Not sure. At the time I did put a 1tb in mine and a 2tb into the ps4. Someone else here will know though if Google doesn't have the answer handy. Just make sure on the outer dimensions of the drive. It is very quick and easy to swap once you have your data backed up and the update file ready.

    It depends on the dimensions of the drive. Both PS3s and PS4s can only take drives that are no more than 9.5mm high. If you look at the dates of the google results I'd bet they're all more than 4 years old when the highest capacity drive you could get that was 9.5mm high was 1TB.
