Tried to search forum on root but can't get any hits . My question is whether it is legal to root an android phone in Ireland. I am looking at getting a new phone nut iPhone seems very expensive / walled garden but the fragmentation of Android and lack of OS updates is a also an equal negative for me . Considering rooting.

There's nothing illegal about rooting. I think unlocking bootloader voids warranty.

Perfectly legal. What software you have on your phone is your own business.

It can void your manufacturer's warranty, that's up to the manufacturer (OnePlus warranty is still valid for example).

However, unlocking your bootloader does not void your statutory rights. If your phone develops a hardware defect, having an unlocked bootloader doesn't remove the responsibility of the retailer to replace, refund or repair.
