Any idea where I can get extendable/butterfly Rawl plugs 5m in Dublin?

    Hi,

Child gate came out of the wall this morning. The rawl/wall plugs are 5mm (diameter) and I need this size to get through the gate fixings. Any idea where I can get 5mm ones that extend/butterfly behind the plasterboards (apologies if my terminology isn't correct) in Dublin (or even online)? Been to local hardware store, B&Q and Woodies but the smallest any of them had was 8mm.

Thanks in advance for any guidance.

The diameter of most of those extentable/butterfly fixings is greater for the piece the goes into the wall than the actual screw/bolt that will fix the gate to the wall. The 8mm fixing probably has a 4/5mm bolt

Thanks for your reply but I'm not sure I understand! If the plug that came with the Gate is 5mm surely I have to use that size to get it through the gate holes? Or am I missing something?

Take the fitting in the picture. Its a butterfly fixing. The hole you would need to drill in the plasterboard for the fixing to fit through would be maybe 8mm. The diameter of the actual bolt in the fitting is maybe 4mm.

1)You drill the hole in the wall
2)you remove the bolt from the fitting, and put it through the hole in the gate.
3)refit the butterfly fixing to the bolt that is now through the gate
    4) put the butterfly fitting through the hole you drilled in the wall. It will open up inside the hole. Tighten the bolt, pulling the gate tight to the wall
    5) grab a beer from the fridge, wait for the wife to tell you how great you are

    Thank you so much!

Makes sense now. Sorry for the stupidity of my questions - this is not my area of expertise (as you can clearly tell!).
