The problem for the Chinese girl now is that if she has a stinker of a race this week, she can't discard the score (not that I'm wishing that upon her........) :D

Anyone catch Phelps last night. In flying form, albeit at 100 free. Looking forward Phelps vs. Chad! Usually when geared up for these matches some 'nobody' steals the show!

That was an insane leg he did in the 4x100 relay. Doubt they'd even have medalled without him, they should give him at least 3 of the golds so he'll be closer to having one for every day of the month!

What score do you actually get for a dq?

You're placed worse than last as far as I know. The winner gets 1 point and if there are 37 boats in the race, the last placed finisher gets 37 points but the DQed boat gets 38 points.

Another DQ and she'd be well goosed!

Exactly! And it also means if she has a stinker of a race this week and finishes 27th or something, she cannot discard that score from her overall score.

A Hungarian 19 year-old was the fastest qualifier in the 200fly heats, so you might be right. Kenderesi, watch out for him.

Do you know what the infringement was?

My prediction is that if there's any more GB success tonight the sexual chemistry between Mark Foster and Becky Adlington is literally going to explode and wouldn't surprise me if Helen decided to join in too ;)

It seems she must have strayed off course or something (perhaps going inside a buoy instead of outside) and they spotted it later.

Yeah seems a bit chaotic going around those markers, reminded me a bit of rush hour around the Arc de Triomphe. Thought i noticed quite a few of them touchiing the markers even though the commentator said that wasn't allowed, or meant you had to double back around it the second time or along those lines anyway.

I assume the judges watch back a video later and if they spot an infringement, the boat is DQed.

Excellent 200 men's free this morning. Clos almost hung on.

Hosszu gets another gold in 100 back.

That was some swim by Clos alright from Lane One.

Just in case anyone is interested, don't forget the weightlifting. I wasn't aware it was on at the moment as I only have basic tv and dodgy laptop and none of main tv channels seem to be showing it :( Check out Fitness thread for schedule.

Been following it on the live streams. Great stuff. So strategic.

We all watched it for 20 minutes yesterday so to answer your question, yes lots of sailing people here ;)

But seriously...the experts say she's in a good place anyway. It's a marathon not a sprint, she's in a medal position after Day One. Ahead of the curve I'd say.

It's 10 races split over 4 days. Results of 9 count with one discarded, best 10 go into the 10th and final race where double points count for the final reckoning. If you can follow any of that!

It will go on for 6 days! Five days of two qualifying races, and the medal race on Monday 15th.

No she hasn't screwed it up. Early days. A huge amount depends on the conditions - she's a brilliant heavy weather sailor, but consistently big winds are highly unlikely, so she's up against it tbh.

There's also a discard to be applied in the series, and two of the top contenders already have a DSQ, so if she keeps a clean sheet - who knows!

in the last two Olympics nobody has won a medal after having a non discard score of over 10. Annalise will be hoping her 14th is a discard. I know nothing about actual sailing and wonder how one can go from 1st in a race to 14th in the next when they are about an hour or so apart. She really needs to be in the top 4-5 in every race from now on. In 2012 the Dutch girls discard was a 6th and the Belgians was an 8th wile Annalise had a discard of 19th but had to keep a 10 and an 8.

Was London a bit of a freak in the scoring regard? As in her scores there woudl have won her a medal in nearly every other Games, i seem to recall that anyway. Anyway, she said in her post-race interview yesterday that she felt it would be a high scoring event this time around, that few would be consistently finishing top 5 or lower every race. There's a bit of wiggle room in other words, and as we saw what happened with the Chinese girl, a lot of drama that can happen between now and the end!

Gymnastics womens team final starts at 8! It won't be quite as open as mens, the USA are extremely dominant. But China, Russia and GB (Romania did not qualify a team to Rio) are in the mix for the podium so it'll still be tense and dramatic.

Still haven't seen Simone Biles yet. Will we see much of her tonight?

Annalise was not even priced (100/1 plus) last week but she had come into the betting over the weekend. Cannot understand why the Men 49er are regarded as such no hopers. Also I noticed that the O'Donovans were 8/1 3rd favourites yesterday but today, after their first race they are gone out to 11/1 4th favourites.

Chinese girl was disqualified from the first race for not doing her penalty turns quick enough.

Reports are winds should reach 16 knots on this afternoons course by start time which if it stays steady will suit Annalise

Yeah qualifications weren't broadcast on any main channels. Simone will be on vault, beam and floor for the US. She qualified first into the all-around, beam, floor and vault finals -by a mile. She's expected to take 5 golds.

Poor performance by Sanita. Terrible tactics to put it bluntly, she didn't leave it all on the water. You can't give away the lead she did and expect to pull it back in the last 250m.
