Fridge Query

    Evening all.

Last week or so we have notice a chemical/gas smell coming from the fridge when we open it. Particularly bad first thing in the morning. Or if it is closed for any period of time.

The freezer is fine, no smell at all, just the fridge. It is not behind the fridge, just when you open it. It's horrible.

The fridge keeps making no making noise every once in a bit. It's the smell that's the worse, and worrying. We've been here for 18 months and never had any issue with it.

We had an engineer out and he just shouted at me that I don't know anything about fridges and when I tried to explain the above, he kept saying I was wrong and when I eventually asked him what the smell was, he shrugged his shoulders.

    Anyone else experienced this?

Very hard to diagnose the smell over the internet but start by removing the shelves and give it a good clean with warm water and breadsoda as something may have been spilled and got into recesses etc thats giving off the smell. Refrigerant gas doesnt smell and isnt flamable (bar r600) but if the fridge has a gas leak you could get a smell from the oils in the compressor, if its leaking to that extent it wouldnt be cooling
