20mm insulated plasterboard

    Hi there,

We are getting our kitchen and bathroom renovated and are looking to put in a maximum of 20mm insulated plasterboard. The extension were the kitchen and bathroom are was made by a relative in the 60s or 70s. Its made with bricks and not cavity walls and its really narrow.

The kitchen leads on to the bathroom. There was a small bit of mould in one of the kitchen cabinets when i first moved in (as the house was vacant for two years likely) and a lot of mold on two of the bathroom walls. The rooms are also alot colder than the rest of the house as we got the rest of the house replasted and insulated on the exterior walls.

Im just looking for some general advice. We think that 20mm plasterboard is the maximum we can get as it is really narrow as is. Would this make much difference temperate wise to the two rooms (I think the rest of the house got a lot thicker insulation)?

Would it cause mold if we have extractors in both rooms which we dont have currently. Any particular brand/type of plasterboard that is thin but more insulated?

    Thanks

Any replies really appreciated as Im afraid of causing more damp. I have been reading about it and some people have said that the plasterboard could cause worse damp.

    Couple more questions.

    1) Is an air gap neccessary between the wall and the plasterboard? Saw some people mention 50mm which we just dont have to give really.

    2) Any particular brand of foil backed insulated plasterboard we should be getting. Ideally only want to add an extra inch to the wall when it has been skimmed and all.

No space, glue it to the wall.
It may be outside your budget but the best option is exsulation with your solid wall.

Cheers for that. Ya it is way outside our budget. 20 mm insulated plasterboard, how good is that? Any particular brand I should get the plasterer to get?
