New electrolux dishwasher fault code

I purchased a new Electrolux esf4600row from power city today to replace my hotpoint that gave up. Had a look at a few threads here and gave the installation a go myself.

First time I turned it on it showed up the fault code i40 or ,40. Definitely water going to the connection but the box type thing at the connection point is new to the last dishwasher.

Waste pipe is clear, tried the dishwasher loads of times, sometimes it started and cut out within 2minutes, however a trickle of water came out the waste pipe.

I rang Electrolux service and they said they'd send out an engineer. It'd cost €75 if it was an installation problem and free otherwise. The woman on the phone said it was probably an installation error though. I've a few pictures attached into help diagnose any mistakes I've made.

where the waste hose is pushed onto the spigot of the sink wastepipe did you cut off the blank to let the water flow out?

The last dishwasher was connected to the sink wastepipe so I just took off the old dishwasher wastepipe and put on the new one.

I found the first attached file online so I checked the wastepipe and the filter area. I found a black plastic thing and removed it to see if it would make a difference. I can't get it back in now but suspect it should be removed? Its the second and third pictures.

I'll be ringing service Monday morning. I'm getting the iCO fault as well sometimes!

it needs that piece in situ to let it empty, get the service engineer out.

Only problem is I can't get it back in! I presume just press as hard as I can on it til it pops in?

Rang power city, told me to bring it back and they'd replace it. Very pain free and the new one works perfect! Thanks for your help.
