We have been looking at a couple of houses on Daft.ie in the town centre and wonder would it be suitable for a retired couple or would outside the town be a better option.

Deends really on where outside town. Shops near by etc would be handy. Do you have family in the area?
I'd prefer to be nearer town when I retire, or at leat in a village

No we don't have any family. We thought being in the centre might be good for getting about as we don't want to drive or depend on public transport too much.

    Somewhere like Crowmwells fort?

There is a bus service around town, which may be helpful (but route could change!)

You don't recommend living in the town then?

I do! Depends on what you mean by "town". I'd consider Whiterock as being in town, but not Barntown, for example.

The area we were looking at was Faythe, do you know it?

The Faythe is one of the older parts of the town and would be hard to beat in terms of convenience for getting around on foot. While there are plenty of housing developements in Whiterock I would still consider it to be on the outskirts and the hill can be a bit of a drag.

The Faythe would be very handy, not too far from the Main Street/Quays/Tesco

I know the Faythe very well indeed. I've family there and I went to school there. You'll be hard pressed to find a more convenient location in town. It is a very old part of town, and even though it's essentially all terraced there are a large variety in house sizes and conditions. If you see a house you're happy with there it is prime location.

To be honest if I still lived in Wexford I'd be happy to buy there.

Wexford town is an amazing place for a retired couple.

My parents live there, and have a super time (both retired).

To be honest, there is so much to do, that if your bored in Wexford its your own fault.

There is everything from Art classes, drama groups, music, bridge to active retirement groups, walking. Everything you could think of.

You will have an amazing time if you move here!

Thanks so much. There is only the 2 of us so max we would need is a small 2 bedroom house, we don't fancy an apartment.

That's great to hear thanks so much. Lots to do is exactly what we need, we live in a Killorglin, Kerry (its a long story how we ended up here but its been a big mistake) at the moment and although the scenery is lovely there is very little to do in the town and I don't drive. I have joined a group but it only meets once a week. I am originally from Dublin so don't have any family down here. We can't afford live in Dublin but nearer would be nice which is why we are thinking of Wexford. Its 30 years since I have been to Wexford town, but really liked it then and we are going next month for a look. I have been looking on daft.ie and we should be o.k. price wise as we expect to have about 150k and we only want something small.

I'm envious of you to be honest.

It's been 10 years since I've lived in Wexford Town. I still go home ever 3-4 weeks but would love to live there, unfortunately there's just not the work for me - something which won't be a problem for you obviously!

Please post back here after your visit next month and update us, let us know how you got on.

I certainly will do and thank you so much again for the feedback on Wexford, its hard when you don't know anyone who lived/lives there. As you can imagine we can't afford to make another mistake when choosing where to live.

I'm a blow in! Living in Wexford six years now and I love it, I live in the countryside but work in town. It's a great town with so much going on and the amount of festivals in recent years is fantastic, they are all year round too not just summer. People are friendly, being called hun every five seconds was a bit weird at the start lol
By far my favourite thing about Wexford is curracloe beach, we live near it and it's paradise.
The Faythe is a lovely area, close to town, near Tesco, there's pubs, a medical centre etc and it's pretty quiet. I think you'll be happy here :-D

Well we are back, we had a wonderful time in Wexford Town. I really liked the place, very buzzy and loved all the shops on the main street. The people were very very friendly everywhere we went. We had a couple of nights out, we went to The Crown and Maggie May's.

We noticed lots of houses for sale in the town itself which we had not seen on Daft.ie, I thought all houses were advertised on Daft.ie does anyone know if this is true or if some might be with local agents only?

Great to hear you had a good few days there, it is a nice town! You might catch me in Maggie's and the Crown early on the odd Friday evening I'm home!

Daft is just a service to advertise, not an agent, and as such some people (most) will choose to advertise there, but some will choose an auctioneer that doesn't for some reason (which is a bit "daft" in my mind, its surely got the biggest audience. For example some properties show up on "myhome.ie".

When I bought my house in Wexford, the estate agent told me not to go by the For Sale/Auction signs on properties. He told me there are more than those available but sellers wouldn't let signs go up because they didn't want their neighbours to know their business :)

Did you find your house via Daft.ie? or a local agent?

    T'was before the internet :)

Went through a local agent, but the 'mind your own business' attitude from sellers still persists in Wexford according to a friend of mine currently going through the process
